Hello all,
I am a guitar tech and I had a customer come in the other day that loves the way his Gibson feels. He recently purchsed an american fender tele and likes the sound but dislikes how the guitar has to angle to the neck from the body. He likes how his gibson wraps around his body.
With that said, I explained to my customer that the manufactures desinged their guiatrs that way. Gibson with the angled neck and fender without. He has asked me to see if i can't find a way to angle his neck on his tele. I am a little leary of doing so, but I would value all your opinions.
Our idea on how to do so is to have a bridge machined to be taller than a normall tele bridge with an obvious angle to it, to compensate the angle the neck will have. Then for me to build a shim that fit the neck pocket to angle the neck. Personally I think it will look horrible and that he should look into a different guitar but he is quite persistent.

Thank you for all the opinions ahead of time,
Auri

I also agree. This angle is what seperates the Gibson and Fender designs. If someone wants that feel buy the Gibson

The neck angle seems to be a function of the set neck design. I currently have two tele's that have set necks and both have the neck angling back. My strat is straight up. Unfortunately, neither of my tele's has standard tele pups. One has P90's the other SD Pearly Gates with a coil splitting switch. It seems like he could get one of the set neck model tele's and live with the pickups or try changing them out to a tele single coil which would be difficult because neither has a standard pick guard. The two models I'm referring to are the Jim Adkins JA-90 Thinline Tele and the Special Edition Custom FMT HH. Both of them are available new. Here are links to them, you'll notice that the description of the Special Edition Custom doesn't mention it has a set neck but mine definitely does.

you shim the neck ......biz card not too thick ....cut a strip of biz card and place it at the bottom of the neck cavity where the lower screws go thru....screw thru it ...this will make the 10th - 14th fret area play a little easier ...the guitar will play a little tougher thru 15 - 19th fret now .....it still won't be a les paul but it's all you can you unless you have an american std with the micro tilt adjustment!

like this!
