Hi Guys.

Apologies for my first post in the tele section being one asking for help. I am on my third strat but decided to swap around guitars so I would have a strat (got a '09 strat deluxe), a hollowbody (got an Epiphone Dot) and I am now looking for a Telecaster.

I did have a tele a long time ago (in 1976) - a tele custom - very nice.

I have found what looks like a bargain but it is too far away to see before buying.

It's described as a "USA Fender Telecaster 60th Anniversary"

it's tobacco sunburst, maple neck, 22 frets, white scratchplate
has made in USA on the reverse of the headstock
Serial no is Z6 + 6 numbers
the bridge has 3 saddles (most I see nowadays have 6 though)

The owner has had it from new

Any advice appreciated. What model will it most likely be?

I think I will probably need to sort out a deal tomorrow so any advice would be great.

Many thanks

Graham

Graham,
First, welcome to the Tele forum. Sounds like an American Standard / American Series. I believe that the bridge is non-original since they were made with 6 saddles, not the 3 barrel style bridge. If the seller is the original owner then he/she would be able to tell you the history of the bridge.
I have an '04 in the same finish as the one you are looking at and I love the guitar! I bought mine a year or two ago for $500, which I believe was a good deal for what I got. Best of luck with whatever you decide to do.

Be forewarned that if you do buy this Tele you will not have any use for your Strat or Epi!

Thanks for the advice. I asked him about the bridge and he said that's how it came new.

I am thinking it's most likely a highway one tele from all the digging around I have been doing.

If it is a HW1 is it worth less? The guy is selling it for a low price for a USA tele but I suspect it should be lower if its a HW1 - is that right?
Or should I maybe give it a miss and try and get a USA standard?

Thanks

PS I love my strat tho - so it will need to be a very good tele to keep me away from it lol :-)

You can go to the website of a music shop that sells guitars and have a look at the difference in price between the HW1 and the AM standard.

If you're in the USA you could have a look here:

If you're in Europe (including the UK) you could have a look here:

i'm certainly not up on all/any models fender makes but it's clear you're looking at a 2006 (Z 6) tele ....the teles 60th anniversary is this year - 2011 ...

this is what fender is selling celebrate 60 years!

http://www.fender.com/products/60th-tele

now...fender was formed in 1946 so this tele may be commemorative of the companies formation rather then the tele's beginning in '51

i think the big clue with this guitar is that you say the 'made in usa" is on the back of the headstock ...this suggests hwy1 ....aren't most or all amex stnds 'made in usa" on the front of the headstock?

i would base the decision to buy based on fair price and the feel of the neck!
