My pride and joy is my rosewood tele which I bought in the early 80's. It is simply the best guitar I have ever played and sounds amazing it is rosewood all the way thru with just a thin blonde strip on the back of the neck. I walked into a rehearsal room and the owner offered me £5k for it on the spot! I cant find a serial number BUT I have kept the original paper inspection/shipping tag on it! (I know I am crazy and my mates take the p). Can anyone tell me a) where is the serial number b) how can i know for sure it is a US model and c) Whats it worth?? Cheers. Loz

I'm not remembering an early 80s USA rosewood Tele, but I was a fairly new player back then and really very much a Strat-only guy so I could simply have not paid attention to the various limited run Tele models.

Okay - an early 80s USA Tele would have the serial number on the headstock; I'm 95% sure the only USA reissue model Tele was the '52. Of course this is CBS/Fender and anything is possible; it could have used an old neck plate with the serial number on it.

I do remember some very nice MIJ rosewood Teles a bit later in the 80s; they had the serial numbers on the back of the neck heel about an inch or so above where it bolts on to the body - these would be a very small 2-line decal with the serial number on the first line and "Made in Japan" on the second line.

To my knowledge U.S.A. Rosewood Teles were only 69-72 and from 86-96 MIJ. A U.S. rosewood would be worth $10,000-$12,000 yet I've seen them sell and for sale for much more than that.I'd hang on to that little gem although the lack of a serial No. is puzzling. My buddy had a '69 and if my memory serves me correctly the serial No. was on the neck plate.
