Hey guys,

I've been considering purchasing an electric guitar to bring with me to college (something for under $1000). Seeing as how I already own an American Standard Strat I figured it would be a good idea to look for something with humbuckers. I went to my local Guitar Center today and found a '72 Tele Thinline, and while I loved the way the guitar felt in my hands, the Wide-Range humbuckers just didn't have that punch I was looking for. I was hoping someone here could point me in the direction of a guitar that feels as good to play as a Thinline, but with a more aggressive sound and hopefully more sustain as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I bought the JA-90 Thinline Telecaster a week ago. There's a thread on it here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=59981
After playing it for a week, I can tell you this, the pickups on the Tele are considerably hotter than my Strat. They're not humbuckers, but they have a real nice live sound. My guitar teacher who has an LP and Tele didn't want to give it back to me. I'm real happy with the sound, build quality and feel. I got a real good price on it online. For $650, no tax, no shipping, no case, it's a great bargain.

Thanks! Based on the youtube vids I just watched the sound seems pretty cool, but how noisy is the guitar when you crank your amp?

I haven't cranked it with the Tele yet. I've give it a go tomorrow and let you know.

Anyone else have input? I'll hopefully be going to Guitar Center tomorrow but the more input, the better.

You asked about noise level. There really isn't any increase in noise when cranking my amp. We're only talking 10 watts here, but there is no hum, etc. In the last few days I got another tele that you probably saw in another post. It has Pearly Gates pups. Out of the four guitars I have now, the JA-90 is the hottest and clearest sound. It was definitely made to play lead. Look up some YouTube video for "Jimmy Eat World", my JA-90 sounds exactly like his. It all comes down to what you like to play and what you want to sound like. Right now I'm into blues and the Pearly Gates are working for me. But I like what I get from all of my guitars because they're all real distinct and I like the variety.
