Would this change the tone? I have a American Ash Tele (8502) which sounds nice but a bit more "warmer and woody" and it would be perfect. The body has a poly finish and I think if the bridge would sit directly on the wood the guitar´s tone might improve? Anybody tried this before?

It your guitar. Scrape off as much paint as you like to see if you can make it sound better.

The bridge is screwed tight to the body. That's all that matters in my opinion.

Can't recommend it or not, but I recall seeing somewhere that Eric Johnson did that to his guitars.

I read somewhere it could improve the tone / sustain. But today with the wood quality the guitar is made I don't know if it will make any difference

Hi and thanks! You are right, a big difference is not to be expceted. And , of course, my playing is definitely in another league than Eric Johnson´s, haha. Just trying to get the max out of this Tele...

Just keep playing it and don't stop.

You may have a half hour rest period each midday for lunch, two 15 minute coffee breaks at your discretion and as much as 8 hours of sleep each night, no more. Keep up this regimen for 10 to 20 years. Then you'll get the max out of your Tele.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
