I love my tele's neck but I hate its pasty wite color. I don't want to wait 20+ years for it to tint naturally, how do I tint it now? (the neck has laqceur on it though)

I have heard of ways that others have done it without refinishing-but they ALL sound bad, and I wouldn't recommend it as it's possibly irreversible. I'm firmly about leaving anything stock on a guitar if at all possible; if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

You'll need to sand and refinish your neck. But beware! I've tried it with mixed results. Mostly bad. I like glossy necks, and I've never been able to duplicate a factory finish. I've tried cover ups and end up with a sticky neck. Another alternative is to buy a replacement neck with the tint you want. You can keep the original neck.

First off, if it has a maple fretboard forget about it.

Here's my theory:

Take the neck off and keep it FAR away from the rest of your guitar, take ALL the hardware off of the neck off and put them in a SAFE place NEAR YOUR GUITAR.

Then, sand the neck down with 300 grit sandpaper nice and evenly (leave and headstock alone unless you have acces to a new set of logos)

Once it's sanded down real good put VERY LITTLE amber tint on it. MAKE SURE THAT THE TINT IS VERY READY TO GO, TEST THE COLOR ON SOME WOOD FIRST. THIN THE TINT with either alcohol, water, whatever the bottle says to use. FOLLOW ALL INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOTTLE THOROUGHLY. Just add layers until you're satisfied. Then use some Danish oil or laquer or watever. Danish oil gives a nice satin sheen.

AFTER THE JOB IS DONE: After the neck is THOROUGHLY DRY, feel the neck to see how it feels to you. If it feels too rough or gritty, buff it with some steel wool until it feels just right.

It's a very long process just to get a neck to look better. It can also be rather expensive. You can find vintage necks on ebay, but they cost quite a bit (think upwards of like, the price of your guitar). My pasty white mexican tele has a nice yellowish tint on it after a few months. It really all depends on how much light and wear it has to put up with. By the time this project would be done you might get halfway and just give up. There are tons of reasons not to do this.
