Hey guys. I've been thinking about buying a Tele Deluxe for a few years (because I'm in love with the Wide Range humbuckers and even just the attitude of the guitar). I saw a vintage one at a local shop with the serial 533925. I was wondering what you guys could surmise from this. Best I could find was that it was possibly made in '75. Can anyone get more info off the serial?

Its got a translucent walnut finish, and the knobs and switch are a little roughed up. Definitely not mint, but functions fine. What would be a reasonable ballpark for the price of this guitar? The sticker says $2500, but I'd try to talk them down from there irregardless.

I know its not quite the same, but have a look at the reissue's-I have one, its great! A real growl. Consider that build quality was not quite as good then, and quality checks less strict. And some of the price you're paying is because it is old...

Yeah, I've been strongly considering a reissue. I have heard that maybe the pickups aren't as great as the originals. Does anyone have any opinion on that matter?

Pickups are great- they have a real growl, throaty bottom end and a sparkly top. Very distinguished chords, clean is deep and mellow, and well balanced. It sounds great. Between the pickup selector, volume and tone controls there is great variety in the sound.

Pulled the trigger and got a 3-tone sunburst reissue. The pickups are very nice. They're a little more trebly than I expected but they still sound awesome and i love the neck. Crazy comfortable.

I plan on having a little photoshoot this weekend once I get a chance. If anyone has tips about uploading pics to the forum so that they aren't gigantic, that would be a hand.

The re-issue pickups sound good but they are not widerange and do not have the clarity of the original pickups. The re-issues are normal humbuckers fitted into widerange pickup covers.

Congrats on the deluxe reissue purchase. I know the pickups differ from the original but fender sells the guitar and calls the humbuckers it puts in there widerange so that's good enough for me. The guitar has a unique sound and feel. I have one in black from 2004 I think, when they started reissuing. Chunky neck and solid feel. Good versatile guitar except when destorted a lot. I play clean mostly and its great for blues and gritty tones too. I saw an original, worn but in butterscotch with black pickguard that was beautiful.

Here is mine:
