I think this is terrible if true. It will only cheapen the Fender name. Other artists with signature guitars have been playing for years and have achieved something in music over a sustained period. Lavigne or her fans cannot claim this. Her music is clearly taken from the Ramones-Green day genre, nothing original there I'm afraid, and not even fractionally as good. If it is happening, shame on Fender for following a teenage fade. However I sincerely hope it is not or I will seriously consider my allegiance to Fender products

Oh, brother.

Yes, there is a Squier Avril Lavigne Telecaster.

I'm sure Fender will miss your allegiance. You can send your '52 RI to me.

********

By the way, just you so know: signature models aren't created as Lifetime Achievement Awards. They're created to help a certain type of buyer decide to purchase a Fender guitar. And that's all.

Damn it Jim!! you beat me to it, I was gonna ask him to send it to me!

But you must be very angry about this since this is the second thread about it. I really dont see the big deal. If someone starts playing guitar because they wanted the Avril model. Thats all thumbs up in my books. Whatever gets people to pick it up and enrich their life is what it is. Whether its a Malmsteen model or an Avril.

I dont think that artist models are awarded based on technical abilities and they shouldnt be. Music is supposed to be about inspiring one another and if Fender thinks that the millions of fans she has would want to play a guitar with her signature on it then they should make it. It dosent mean you or I have to go out and buy it. I wont be lining up to get one, thats for sure. But, I dont think its gonna completely ruin your life knowing that guitar is out there.

I am pretty sure there are a lot of people on this website who could outplay Avril, but I would like to see whose music has reached more people.

And I dont think I need to get into the marketing and sales stand point behind releasing the guitar. There is a reason it was released through Squire and not through Fender...think about it.

I wholeheartedly agree. One of my favorite guitars is the old Squier (CIJ) Venus 12-it's my main 12 string and I love all the features and sound-but I don't love Courtney Love and I sure didn't get it because of her (no offense meant to Courtney Love fans-BTW, this doesn't just apply to female players/endorsers, but to male players/endorsers too). I'm not saying that the Avril Lavigne Tele is a good or bad guitar, but I don't buy guitars based on who uses them or if it is a signature model. Like was already said, if it inspires someone to simply pick up a guitar that hasn't before or wouldn't before, then so much the better!

Avril L. not worthy of a Tele???

At least she's a musician! I mean Gibson has a Kiefer Sutherland model 335... What the???

I mean call me old fashioned, but, I think it's totally "Rock-n-Roll" to honor a hot young pop-punk female with her own model guitar!

And not to mention, HOORAY Fender for trying to inspire young girls to play. And pricing it right so that aspiring teenaged females can afford to channel their angst in a musical way.

Besides, she's married to Derrick from Sum-41, he is hilarious! What's not cool about her?

If an artist has modified a guitar significantly enough to make it sound or feel different (not merely asthetic) and that modification can be reproduce in a new guitar, I can see making a signature guitar and giving that artist credit for the specific set up.

yeah, squier is doing them... thats along the lines of the pete wentz bass.... i personally don't think either of them are deserving of one, but i'm sure it will bring a lot of younger people into guitar and bass playing

I can see where it's a good thing to get young people playing, absolutely, but when I picked up a guitar it wasn't because I knew of a famous performer who used one, I just wanted to learn how to play this instrument. And I think there should be a little more to earning a signature series guitar than selling a million records. Yes, in a way it is an achievement award, in the sense that you have done something for the instrument that no one else has been able to do quite as well and now a company is acknowledging your efforts by designing an instrument around the way you want it. I think it stands for something, a lasting effect on the instrument itself. OR I really just hate Avril Lavigne. Yeah I think I just hate Avril Lavigne.

Sorry but Avril Lavigne doesn't qualify as a musician. Not even close.

What are you talking about? When people talk about great guitarists, they often talk about Hendrix, Clapton, Van Halen, Vai, Johnson, and Sutherland, who has the best technique, chops, and phrasing out of them all!

Just kidding...for me that was the sign that Gibson had indeed lost their minds...
