Hi guys,

I bought this beautiful Daphne Blue Tele last year. However I cannot seem to find any reference of the existence of this model. It has all the specs of an HW1, including the low gloss finish and the large 70s tele-logo. It has the Fender ' 60' badge on the back of the headstock, and the serial # starts with Z6. So it must be a 2006 (I changed the ' three saddle bridge' for a Gotoh myself). Even the 2006 fender catalogue does not report this guitar in Dapnhe blue.
I really love this guitar, but it's also a mystery to me. Any tele wizards out there who can help me out?
Thanks!

Jan

I kind of looks like maybe someone took a 67 Time Machine Series neck and put it on a different body? The serial number should put it in 2006, but you are correct there is not one reference to any guitar listed in the Fender Catalog in that color with that type of finish...but not every guitar is listed in the Fender Frontline Cataloge...I have a 04 Golden Anniversary Strat that was not listed either...But I bought it new from a very good Fender Dealer who gave me a bunch of info on it and even gave me the Price List Sheet he had for it.

Give Fenders consumerrelations.com a try and see what they say.

Jan,

Are you by chance in Europe?

I think I remember this color made only for the European market.

Guys, thanks for your information so far! I emailed the fender customer service. Lets see what they have to say. I'll keep you posted. And yes, I live in Europe, the Netherlands to be precise. Interesting suggestion about these models being made for the European market. I didn't know Fender did that.

I did find a tele hw1 which is really similar, but has different headstock logo and two adjustment screws next to the neckPU which mine hasn't: http://www.dv247.com/assets/products/41645_l.jpg

Close, but yet so far ....

hi there

have a look at this link

http://www.gryphonstrings.com/instpix/32286/32286.php

the highway 1 tele usually has the two pickup screws but the highway 1 texas tele does not so the daphne blue version seems to be a bit of a hybrid in looks. in the 2007 catalogue daphne blue is an available colour and a Z6 serial number can quite possibly be an early 2007 guitar.

hope this helps

I don't know if it's just the photo but that guitar looks more Sonic Blue than Daphne Blue .

I'm sure Fender made Highway 1 Teles in Daphne Blue and they weren't just for the European market. I remember seeing them at http://www.musiciansfriend.com for sale in the USA.

I just checked my 2006 and 2008 Fender catalogs and Daphne Blue isn't listed. It could be a 2007 - Fender didn't print a Frontline catalog that year - only a price list that I don't have a copy of. Daphne Blue (color code 04) is listed as an option for Highway 1 Teles in the 2004 Frontline (page 84).

I agree. It's not unusual for Fender serial numbers to be a year or two off.

Thanks again for your help! I just received a mail from the fender customer service. My tele is made in 2006. Fender discontinued Daphne blue for this model in 1/2008.

Still, this color with a maple neck seem really hard to find. At least I cannot find any pics or whatsoever on the net or in catalogues.

Weird that fender discontinues the nicest HW1 they ever made.... ;) I wonder thats because of a lack of sales, or that they just wanted to keep this configuration exclusive (for whatever reason).

Hi Kapperjan

Glad to hear you have found some answers, most of the photos you see of the Daphne Blue HGWY 1 have the rosewood board. Seems to me that Daphne Blue if the first colour to get finished .

here is the info from the Fender price list of 2007 effective 1/feb/2007

Image

I have found a photo from the net of a guitar similar to yours but with the 2 pickup screws

http://www.fallonemusic.com/images/fend ... one_XL.jpg

I have a 2009 HGWY 1 in 3TS that does not have the screws....go figure

regards

Hi ukraider, thanks for the pics. the image of the pricelist is almost my guitar! It has the same headstock logo but two screws for the PU aswell!! haha, never the same ... In any case, I guess it is safe enough to assume that my guitar is genuine. Besides, I have come to know a lot more about my guitar which is really cool! thanks again.

Oddly, if you look on like pg.73, you will find another owner with one.
