Hello Tele players. I've played brand G for many years, but have the itch for a Telecaster. Stopped at GC and sampled a few MIM standards. Now I'm seriously considering a new Tele, but was kind of shocked to find that the fret ends of every one I tried (except for the HWY 1) extend beyond both sides of the neck/board. That is, not the playing surface of the fret but the 'tang' part of the fret. I never noticed this before. Is this a characteristic of all lower-priced Teles? Thanks for any input/opinions.

I think all lower priced Teles are different, so keep looking. But, generally, that is an issue. My Esquire (MIM) is very nice in this regard. I bought a MIM Strat that was at the higher end for MIM. I had a luthier round off the fret ends and now the thing plays like buttah.

Thanks for responding. Since I posted the question I asked around and was told by my local Fender dealer that the low humidity in (Illinois) winter causes it, and in more humid months it isn't an issue. Maybe that's why I never noticed it before, it's a seasonal thing. But you're talking about the sides of the neck, right? Not on the playing surface of the fretboard? The frets on most Fenders are nicely finished on the board.
