I'm probably going to get a lot of abuse for posting this in a forum full of tele enthusiasts, but is it just me, or are they not that nice? I mean, I dont like the shape of the body or the head. Also how does the tone compare to that of a strat?

Hey...I can honestly see where you're coming from. Teles never really appealed to me; until I played one. I've been hooked ever since. And the look has grown on me too. Pick one up sometime and play it. Maybe you'll see what all the hype is about, or maybe not...only one way to find out.

Yes, it's just you. Now go get your medication.

Cheers

Some people don't like the body shape, some do. Some find it impedes their playing, gets in the way, people that play other styles love it. And the sound is great for anything.

I, for example, find the shape of a les paul awful, and i hate electro acoustics full-stop. I have tried many of these-it is just me. Most people love these, maybe in time I will too...? :D  :D  :D

Yep, Strats look cooler, to me, but a Tele will grow on you quickly when you play one. A Tele is an entirely different animal, with a sound all its own. It's got one less pickup than a Strat, but it can produce an amazing variety of tones. Don't judge it based on looks. The proof is in the playin'!

I am such a newbie to playing, but I've had a Strat and now I have a Tele. I LOVE the Tele!!! Why? Well, the Tele is so much easier to handle neck and weight wise (I'm a female, small hands), the Tele has such a nice, rich tone compared to the Strat and I like that the Tele is just straightforward playing. Now reasons I like the Strat, is because it has different sound that is perfect for certain music, and it just "feels" like you are playing. So really, they are both really great, but depends on who you are and what you like. I mean they are both Fenders, Leo wouldn't steer you wrong! :D

My Tele actually feels heavier than my Strat. Hmmmmm ... that may depend on what model Tele one has, though.

Although the Tele may be Plain Jane in the design department, the tone could cut through brick. The chunky neck takes a bit of getting used to but is very comfortable. The tone is somewhat Strat like due to its single coils but it has a very much pronounced high end that was originally developed to cut through other band instruments.Every guitarist should have at least one Tele in their stable to add to their sonic pallete. My wife gave me a Tele for Christmas a few years ago and for the first few months I had it I couldn't put it down.

I've always considered the Strat to be like holding a lovely lady with nice curves. I consider the Tele to be like holding the same lovely lady, only with her clothes on.

Ha! Makes me laugh - I always think just the opposite.

Playing my Strats always remind me of a lady kinda dainty, sweet and delicate. My Tele's remind me more of a little butt slappin', hair pullin' good time!
