Hello,

Is there any Telecaster with a cutaway in the body where the guitar rests under the arm like the Stratocaster?

That would be what we call a "Stratocaster"... :D

No, there has never been a double-cutaway Telecaster, to my knowledge.

However, a few people have put a Tele necks on a Strat, most famously Eric Clapton (while he was in Blind Faith) and Ian Moore in his early days.

To add to your confusion, there was a Telecaster Bass in the late 60s/early 70s, that was basically a 1951 Precision bass with a humbucker in the neck position (therefore, a Telecaster with a double cutaway, albeit in a bass).

Why do you ask?

Do you mean an arm contour? I don't think any have them, but you can probably buy an aftermarket body with one.

Didn't the Tele Deluxe from the 70s have a front contour as well as a back contour? If so, then the '72 Tele Deluxe reissue would also have contours.

Otherwise it's get an aftermarket body or order from the CS or some other builder (like Anderson, Suhr, etc.).

  :?
After reading the OP again, I realize I am an idiot.
I thought he was talking about a cutaway instead of an arm contour.

I think the 72 reissues just have the back contour.

The Jeff Beck Reissue Esquire has an arm contour. Although the price is STEEP!

Hello,

yes my apologies, I thought the cutaway was the wrong term to use. I was actually refering to the arm contour. The reason for this is that I had played about 6 Tele's some time back to go with my Strat, and I found one the was superb to play but the only thing was the lack of contour was really buggin me. It was a road worn 50s or something like that, it also bugs me that I don't have a Tele and when your getting lessons or seated and learning scales for some time I find it uncomfortable to play.

Just wondering what is out there with the front contour for the arm like the strat :D

One of the telebrations the 75 Telecaster has the arm cutout here's a link to one in a UK store (they're not in stock yet):

Well, that's understandable, since he did use the term "cutaway" . . .

Now as far as an arm contour, I think that one can get used to the Telecaster shape after playing one for a time. I rather like the regular chunky Tele body that remains rather unrefined and true to the originals with few similarities with a Strat.

There's been a few Teles with contour cut into them. Not many, but one or two.

to everyone wondering about the 72 reissue. I own one. I can tell you that:

72 Telecaster Reissues have a back contour only. No front contour like a stratocaster.

Agreed...the no-pickguard dual bucker is another one.

Thanks. I wasn't sure and didn't want to mislead the OP.
