So, some of you may have seen my NGD MIM Telecaster post. I liked the damn thing so much, I found every time I picked up my SG, all I wanted to do was put it down, and go back to the Tele. So I did. For good.

Traded both the MIM Tele and the SG for a new US Standard Telecaster. Some may think this was a bit stupid, or extreme, or a combination of both. But, in the end, I came out only 50.00 down. I paid just over 1050.00 total for the SG and the MIM Tele, and got 1000.00 for both. I paid 949.00 after the 10% trade in discount at GC. Also, returned an Fender SKB tele/strat case I bought a few days ago. Used the rest for a few extra sets EXL115 strings and 25.00 cash.

Thought this was a nice touch

Very nice! I think that's a deal you can be proud of for sure! Teles are addictive...I think worse than crack or heroin even...

The neck styles/size on the 2 are similar, but the MIA feels much more comfortable. I was also able to set the action much lower on the MIA compared to the MIM. And, with the MUCH better bridge, intonation was much easier to set cleanly.

Really, the 2 don't even compare to each other. The MIM is a great sub 300.00 used guitar for that range. In my opinion, not much competes with it (Once properly finished and setup). Seems that Mexican factory fit and finish left a lot to be desired in 06-07. Not sure if that's still the case now. I don't think so, I played a bunch of new MIM Teles, and they seemed fine. Spent a solid 6 hours leveling the fretboard, refinishing the level, and setting it up. Also replaced the bridge and the pickup selector on it too, so....

The US, is just cherry. Only had to relieve the truss rod a bit for my larger strings, and required very little adjustment in intonation/action to get things in shape. EXTREMELY impressed. I am sold for life. Sounds great through my HRDX III. The polished finish on the fretboard, along with the satin finish on the back of the neck, make for a really comfortable feel, and motion. Really a balls finish. Only had to clean out a few of the screw holes on the pick guard after removing the cellophane cover. It was perfect outside of that. It's kind of hard to tell, or confirm without measurements, but it seems like the fretboard has a different radius on the high frets, as opposed to the low frets. But, nothing about the specs says anything about a compound fretboard radius.

Any thoughts on that? Am I just imagining things?

Great looking guitar and a great trade too IMO. It's funny, sometimes my local GC is in the mood for sweet trades and other times, not so much. One dude in particular seems a little more inclined to haggle than others...

Anyhow, that's a great looking guitar and I'm sure it will bring you a lifetime of pleasure. I can't wait to get my tele out of the shop and give it a test run. My local guitar guru is putting the finishing touches on my new tele project. :D

94sg,

It's not a "stupid" trade if you put that much value in your new guitar. These things are so beautiful. Fender does such a great job on their production American Standards. In 2006 I bought the "60th anniversary of Fender" Tele (they called them American Series then) in 3 tone finish. In all my years I never owned an Am Std, but always wanted one. The MIMs were really good then, but I just valued the MIAs too much.

Of my six guitars this one is my favorite. I love this one so much I'd be tempted to be buried with it, but that would be a waste of an excellent instrument. I've told my family they need to sell it to a decent player so it can live on making its sweet tones.

Congrats. Hang on to this one. It is so well made.

And thank you Fender for a job well done.

Very nice guitar, I think the Am Standard are excellent guitars and I love the 60th anniversary neck plate. A good trade in my book and if you feel good about the trade....then well done!!!!!!
