Hello;
I have a Question for everyone here that owns/plays a Telecaster,...
I have been a FENDER FAN for Many Years,Weapon of choice,any Fat Strat Style Fender,from Modified Squires,to,upper end American series Fender Strats.
My Question,which may seem Stupid,is,IS the "Playability" of the TELE something you have to get "Used to" to feel comfortable playing?
I just bought a MIM BLACKTOP HH TELE,and the action seems Very Stiff,I had to adjust the action/Intonation a bit,BUT,It sounds great,and there is NO Fret Buzz,Or,"Dead spots all through the fretboard. It just seems a bit STIFF,takes more Effort to do Bends,Arpeggio Runs,I know Every Guitar plays differently,and Initially before I adjusted the string height,Truss Rod,It had the "Trademark" TWANG ,all I could think of how it sounded,even without being plugged in,was how Bruce Springsteens guitar sounded on his song,"GLORY DAYS".
ANYWAY,Just let me know if it's a different type of String Action I'll just have to be patient and get used to. I've been playing for around 30 years,and ,I'm an old 80's Metal Head,used to fat Strats,Les Pauls,all having Action like "BUTTER". It just seems the TELE is a guitar that is "Unforgiving to any "SLOPPY" Playing,and is a truly Talented Guitarists' Guitar.
THANKS For All Your Help.It's a GREAT GUITAR,I've Always wanted one,this is my FIRST in 30 years of playing,and I'm NOT ready to GIVE IN Because it isn't as Slinky as other guitars. More like a "Tough Guy's guitar,..lol!

Welcome aboard!

You may be right, they do make you work a little harder to get those clean
big bends, but you do get used to them and in time it all becomes just a
matter of choice.

My first decent Tele was a '68 Tele, so I might be a little biased.

Good luck!

I prefer a Tele over Strat personally. I think its too easy to play a Strat its lighter and the neck feels a lot thinner so I can easily bar chords. You just cant get a Tele sound and feel out of a Strat though and it is really what you prefer to use and what feels comfy to you. It may just be me being weird since I don't know too much about Strats since I never owned one but that is the opinion I got from going to guitar center and playing around with them but I may just be crazy lol. So yes I could see going from a Strat to a Tele taking a little bit to get used to but that is if it was me doing the change. :)

Stick with it the Tele's can be a bit of a slog after the Strats but you will crack it. Although I have 3 Strats, Tele's are my favourites. I don't do much string bending and am not the greatest player but to me the Tele just feels right!!!!!!

I find string bending (given the same gauge) to be stiffer on Fenders due to the longer scale, but only slightly. You can't really get away from that; the best you can do is move to lighter strings. Might be why 9s are popular with a lot of Strat guys, I don't know.

Yes, welcome to the world of tough guy guitar players! You've got to jump on that bucking bronco and ride! But seriously, make sure you've got a set of nickel 9s on it and keep away from your Strats for a time, and you'll get used to it. In fact, watch out, as once you tame it, you may never go back to that Strat! 8)
