hey people. so a couple days ago my local area had a comunity day. and i was gonna go any way but even if that wasnt the case i went cus my friends' band was playing. they play like classic rock, blues, and the occasional Radiohead cover (its their favorite band, mine too). my one friend was playing a 69 style thinline tele (RI of course). i heard it and it sounded great, it was like the guitar sound ive been looking for. so after it was over i asked him about it, and it just so happens he uses the same strings as i do. so ive decided im gonna get 1. my question is, is how much different is there between that type of thinline tele (sound wise) compared 2 a standard (mim) tele? cus if theres not that big of a sound difference im gonna get the standard, but if there is a noticable differnce im gonna get the thinline

If you're talking about a Thinline with Fender humbuckers, versus a Tele with standard single coils, yeah, there is a LOT of difference. To my ear, they are totally different guitars.

And if you stick in Seymour-Duncan '59 humbuckers, as per above, then you're taking totally different species and genus.

Will your shop let you return it if you dont like it? The Long and McQuade store I frequent will just order it for you. If you put a deposit on it they will hold it, if no deposit, it goes right to the wall. If you don't like it, you've got 30 days and a full refund.

Are you sure the new ones have the same sound. Didn't the old ones use a different design and different materials for the pickups?

Dude, they now make an american version of what you are looking for!!! This is one of the coolest tele's out there! I have been wishing fender would do an american thinline for like 15 years now! I am totally getting one of these!

To your original question . . . the Telecaster Thinline '69 Reissue has the single coil pickups with a semi-hollow body, so that would have a different sound than the solid body Tele. The solid body has a good sound and might be close enough to what you want, but I like that f-hole in my Thinline for that little bit of soul. In fact, I ended up getting both the '69 with single coils and the '72 Thinline Reissue with humbuckers to have the choice between the pickups. They're both great guitars. The recent American Vintage '69 Tele Thinline (with single coils) would be a nice one to own, but keep in mind that it costs about $900.00 more than the MIM version.
