Thanks for the extra pics ukraider! She is pretty!

I found a sunburst Hwy One Tele today at a guitar shop. The guys had the thing listed at well over a grand and were giving it a "30%" off sell for over 800 hundred. Which if my math serves me correct it should have been in the $700 range. I thought they retailed at $999. Oh well, they really did not seem to be the brightest stars. I bought my Hwy Ones (Tele and Strat) for significantly less. I still was drooling over it and hey, who knows, a man might just be able to get them to come down. I know, "My name is Nolastrat and I am a guitaraholic..."

I had an interesting thing happen on Monday. I went into a shop, that will remain anonymous, to try out some amps with my Hwy One Strat (I know this is a forum for Hwy One Teles, I had not set it up yet, just bare with me). They had me check my case at the door and carry my guitar around to test the amps. While I was in the back of the store a guy comes in and slams some gear down on my brand new fender case (a case that usually comes with the American Deluxe models; see profile pic). Nobody says anything to me about it. I leave the store to find out I have a huge crack in the case and it is tore out of it's frame. I go back in and show the guy at the door. He scratches his head and does not know what happened. He gets the manager. He half listens to the story and says he will give me a TSA002 case. I said I want the same style case I had and I want it in the same (brand new) condition. He handed me over to the assistant manager who played around a little with "how did this happen" and then he finally remembered a difficult customer, being a jerk and slamming his equipment down on my case. He could not find the same case in the stockroom. They offered me a tweed case! Wow, where ever the horse shoe is stuck, I want it to stay! So, guess who's home it is now, the Hwy One Tele!!! I know a long story, but it was too good not to tell!!! And of course there are pics! I believe those cases retail for about $259!!!

The Hwy One Strat did not fit well, and so I fitted it for the Hwy One Tele!

I have a Midnight Wine exactly like yours. I got to get a hardcase for it. I've been keeping it in the padded Fender gig bag it came with. While I'm at it I should get a hardcase for my classic series 50s Surf Green Strat. I love the tone on mine! That greasebucket technology is pretty cool!

Tweed case for any Fender is a must! I also have a tweed strap and I want to get a tweed cord. Just cool and all!

The only odd thing about it, that jumps out at me is that it is not a string through body. I have an Affinity Squier Tele made in China with a body just like that. It is also a top load, non-string through body. I don't know if they made any Highway One Teles like that one. Maybe they did. Does it have the grease bucket tone circuit? That one has a better phone jack than my Chinese Tele. I've already posted mine on here. I hope others who know more about Highway One Teles, chime into this post to help you out. Good luck!

That is a beautiful guitar....congratulations.
I also really like the radio in the background...does it still work? I had a few old tabletop tube radios years ago, but they have disappeared (or perhaps are still lurking in a corner of my basement!). The cabinetry is so impressive, but the difficulty I had was in finding tubes.
Again, congratulations.
cheers,
Alex

Thanks Alex, Yes the radio does still work! It is a 1939 Zenith. The tubes are actually pretty easy to get through the old tube radio forum I belong to. I go this one when we were stationed at Ft Benning Georgia from a guy who had an amazing collection. We also have a beautiful 1932 Arvin table top that still works! Nothing like the old school tube radios on a cold winter night!
Cheers,

I wish I'd saved mine...one was a Crossley DeForrest tabletop, the other I can't remember the name of, but when I had them in the early 70's they were working, then tubes went and I couldn't find replacements. This was before the internet, of course and although I could find tubes for my amplifier, the radio tubes were different. So, foolishly in retrospect, I let them go. You're right though, listening to them on a cold winters night was something special!
Cheers,
Alex

Boomboom,
I agree with the comment made by Jacstrat in that the strings should go through the body. The finish should be satin and not gloss, unless someone has done some work. Some models had a white wrap for the ribbon around the rear pickup's middle section. The made in USA was usually stamped on the back of the headstock below the serial numbers. The Fender logo on the head stock was written in black with a gold outline. Telecaster was written in a slight forward slant. Only one string retainer on the head stock and it was not the old style "string tree." It is located on the E and B string. Where the nut adjustment for the neck is located on the headstock has different wood inlaid possibly walnut (a sharp contrast of dark with the light maple.)
I hope this helps some. Some of these are little aspects that may help you.

Airbornestrat,

I like your honey blonde Tele! I have a Highway One Strat with a rosewood fretboard that is Honey Blonde. I wished I had moved on a Sunburst Highway One Tele last year. Oh the wanting and wishing never ends with guitars and gear!

It's been awhile since I last chatted with you folks. I've still got my Fender Highway Ones and picked up a couple others as well. Bought a couple more amps, had a 2x10 custom cabinet made and loaded it with two 8ohm Ragin Cajuns. Together they are 16 ohms and they sound great. I'm in an area where I cannot open them up and let them breathe regular, but I have broken them in. I've picked up some sweet pedal. I'm the type of player that would walk up to his amp make sure he was in tune and plugged straight in.

Over the last couple of years, I've found my self diggin stomp boxes. Not gone over board yet, but I've enjoyed getting some good pedals at great deals. I've found some gear at "repurpose" stores. So the next time your loved one want to stop and dig through a repurpose store, do it!!! I found a Boss tr-2 Tremolo and Boss TU-2 Tuner. They had more, I ran out of what little money I had in my pocket. I kept saying I was going to get back to the store, but it closed before I could nab an Ibanez tube screamer, and a boss CE Chorus pedal. I found music store going out of business and scored a Boss Flanger BF-2, Boss SD-1 Overdrive, MXR Carbon Copy!!!!!

I enjoy this pedal (carbon copy). I was watching rig rundown and G.E. Smith has the same MXR and so I freeze framed the picture then looked at the Carbon Copy's settings. I dialed in the same settings and it gives a smooth intuitional delay very similar to "Another Brick In The Wall." Off of ebay I was hoping to get a pedal that G.E. has used since his days with Hall and Oates. It's a Chorus CE-2. They were sky high in prices. I read about the Boss CE-3 and found one on ebay for and excellent deal. Ebay showed more excellent gear and so another good deal was done on a Boss compressor CS-3. It has not come in yet, but I have high expectations for this pedal. I've never ran or worked with so many pedals. Again I would plug straight into an amp for years of gigging, then I would use the Boss Sd-1 Overdrive, My white Dunlop crybaby, and a Boss Tu-2 tuner and enjoyed them when properly applied.

I am on the lookout for a black Fender Hwy 1 Strat, a Daphne Blue Hwy 1 Strat, and a Fender triburst Hwy 1 Telecaster. If anyone can help me with finding these guitars in fair shape I would greatly appreciate. I've lost a couple bidding on eBay, just don't want to pay more than a reasonable price. Oh yeah I would like the guitars to be with maple necks and freeboards.

I know, I know I've got serious guitar and guitar gear addiction going on, but I love music and enjoy playing instruments! Oh well i'll put this book to rest. Any of our kind souls in this forum that would sit and read the whole thing, my hats off to you!!! From a crazy picker to another! Yeeeeehaaaaawwwwww!

I'm one of the crazy ones who read it. It seems you have great passion for decent gear. God bless you for that! It also seems like you've scored on some cool pedals. I got some myself. I still got my Boss BF-2 flanger like the one you picked up. I love the way these sound! They have a cool early 80s or late 70s flange tone to them. I have my eye out for a CE-3 chorus and, a carbon copy is cool as well. If you feel like spending close to $170 on nice pedals look into the Catalinbread site. I have a Dirty Little Secret MkIII that is just lovely. They are pricey but, worth it tonewise. I feel they are cleaner than the Wampler pedals which are also pretty nice.

Thanks for reading my terrible writing skills! The Catalinbread site looks interesting. To eat or not to eat? Hahahaha. I listend to the Catalinbread Echorec and it sounds dreamy. As the signal decays it sounds like it has a hint of flange added to it. Don't know if it is a higher setting on the Echorec that does that, but is sounds cool. The delay sounds very rich.

I'm in the middle of collecting parts to build a "buffer" pedal (I have a degree in Electrical/Electronics). I should have enough parts for two pedals. One will go to a friend out west (who encouraged me to build them) and the other to a local guitar shop for abuse/userfeedback. I'm in no rush with these two pedals. It will be a test to see if what I build has what users want in a buffer.

I'm still using my 2008 Midnight Wine Fender Highway One Tele as my main guitar. I recently gave it a little boost by putting in a Seymour Duncan Lil '59. It sounds as if I have three seperate guitars with each flip of the selector switch. It's fun with the grease bucket electronics. The humbucker has alot of bark not too much highs, which I like. The tone knob allows me to have fun with it.

Picked up a couple of guitars. One is 3 color burst Hwy1 Tele and the other is a Blonde Hwy1 Texas Telecaster. After a few months playing the Blonde it is wonderful how it feels in my hands. It's a great guitar. The 3 color burst I've had to replace the nut. The previous owner looked like he was trying to lower the string action and took to much material off the nut(among other areas of adjustment or sanding). I've put in another Fender compensated nut and with some tracing out of the old nut, I was able to get the new to an almost perfect fit. I set up guitars professionally for a local luthier years ago. So I've been able to get these two new guitars dialed in and playing great. Pictures to come.
