Ukraider ,
She is beautiful; hey if there is any way to ship to the U.S.A. please let me know. That is if there are any left! Heheheh hehehe Thank so you much for the extra pictures, I feel like a little kid at Christmas getting the Sears Christmas Catalog! She is Beautiful I hope she sounds as good as she looks. If you can put something up on youtube, I would love to hear it. I have been experimenting with you tube and have had little success. Maybe you folks can understand of how sweet these guitars are.

Thanks on the well wishes on the pickup. It was doing it numerous times yesterday, made me want to throw it out the window. I talked to the $@!. Manager at the store and he says that he thinks that 1. We can send it back to Fender to see if they can determine what is wrong. 2. Just have me pick another Hwy One Tele out. He said he got to look and even though Fender has discontinued them the company has about 20 in stock. They have a triburst :D , Mindnightwine like mine, honey blonde, a skyblue, and a couple of other colors that I am not to sure about. the 3 option was to let their manager take a look at it, I really don't like that idea.

I received my MIM Standard Telecaster that I am thinking about doing a "Frankentele" on. I know this is for Hwy One Tele's, but I may just use some parts from some Hwy's. Here are some of the shots. When I first saw it the sales man was getting ready to hang it on the wall and I asked to look at it. I saw scratches, nicks and some funky neck stuff going on. We talked a while and it fit what I wanted to do for the "Frankentele" project. Here are some pics you can see it is Midnight wine as well as my Hwy, yet it has the gloss finish, I had just been working on the neck. I have worked on necks for yeas this worst neck ever. I kept having to put stress into and wait. I thought I may have messed up by buying it, but I finally got it into Fender standards! Yeah! It feels great and is smooth as silk.

I scored some El-84 Tubes for my Marshall class 5 Limited Emerald Green Edition. Last week a friend in a store was returning an insurance job with destroyed speakers. The preamp tubes were still good, so I scored two 12AX7 Groove Tubes. Which made a huge difference. The preamps tubes had been in the amp since it was new. I bought the Mesa Boogie "Boogie 75060404D 68Q5 /EL84 PWR TUBE" here are some of the shots from the removal and replacement.

Image The speaker in the picture is a special built for Marshall Celestion. It is a 10" and sounds great. I have heard other stories of others replacing them and getting better sound. Hey you never know not unless you experiement!
Image

I have to say that just these changes and setting up the new MIM Tele was amazing. I haven't even got to try my Hwy One's out yet. Imagine an amplifier for the last few years still having the same brand tubes that came with it from the factory. Then you put into it Groove Tubes and Mesa Boogies!!!!! I cannot wait until the morning. I have not done something nice for myself in years and this years fed tax check has allowed me to-do something that I am happy about!!!

Let me please plead with you about the last couple of pictures. If you do not know what you are doing with amplifiers and sound equipment you can hurt yourself and or have a fatal accident. Dealing with equipment like what I have shown in the pics, the amp was unplugged and I have a safe little work station. Even if it is unplugged a capacitor can discharge and stop your heart. If you do not know what you are doing, ask some of the reputable musicians where they get their gear worked on. It would break my heart to know somebody tried to do something that I have done and wound up hurting themselves.
SO PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BE CAREFUL!

I still have not found out the problem with my front pickup on my Hwy One Tele, they have agreed to repair it or replace it. I am not sure what I will do next, because I have grown so accustomed to my Midnight Wine Tele.

AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH as Charlie Brown would say. Time limit on saving your work on these forums is not long enough this the third time I have had to post. It may not have all that I had originally planned it will be even longer Brad! I do save some of my work on M.S. Word in order to not to lose it. Maybe it is just a way of telling me I need to keep things shorter.

I have found other companies that have Highway One Teles on Ebay and Google and are trying to move their inventory. Some are offering great deals on brand new guitars. The most I have found have been the triburst, blond and black. So if you are still hunting or want to add to your collection there are still some opportunities.

I know this Forum was started by me to talk about Highway One Teles. We have shown other guitars, I have shown other guitars and I don't think it is a problem. With that said, I have some friends who are getting turned on to the Fender forum and want to see some of the gear, I've picked up and I know some of you guys like to look as well. So I will show some pics at the end.

Just a note on my recordings, sorry for some of the sound, what sounds good in the room does not sound good on my laptop, what sounds good on my cellphone sounds good, so please bare with me as I try to make some of my silly ramblings a little better for you to listen. Again using my laptop to record sound and video are new to me, I have been stuck in the world of D.A.T. and late 80's technology.

Please let me encourage you to put pics, videos, stories we can all learn from one another and at least get a good laugh (especially at me!) So do not be shy let us have some fun with the forum as long as we follow the rules and make Brad Traweek happy.

Okay here is my Marshall one that some have asked about.

Yeah, blabbler mouth here, but it has been the last week of Elvis' death and I cannot help but think of James Burton. The man had a major influence on me and the way I tried to pick when I was younger. I know this is not about Highway One Teles, but a man like James is the reason one would be built! I cannot remember all the rules here, but there are some really cool videos, shots of Elvis and James. If you have ever heard the term rockabilly James Burton is the man who that term was koined. May he live many, many years to come and continue to make Louisiana and God proud!

Take the time to look up some Elvis and James videos. James also worked with Ricky Nelson, Emmy Lou Harris, John Denver, The Monkees, Merle Haggard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, Keith Richards, and Elvis Costello, many, many, many artist. When I was younger I wanted to be a guy that would be called on to do studio work like him. I did do some, but never for anyone like him and never for long.

I have grown fond of the MIM Telecaster. I never in my life would have thought I would do so. It was to be the "FrankenTele." I enjoy playing it so much. I am waiting for my Highway One Tele to come in because the front pickup is making the scratching and popping noises. Not, sure what I will do, as far as the FrankenTele, but who knows. You guys should be able to figure out that I am not the brightest light bulb in the room. Who knows what I may come up with? Maybe get some feed back from you guys if you haven't deserted me yet. When I bought the MIM Telecaster it had some major work needed to be done, and I've found myself taking scratches out, setting it up. Who knows, I may just use it as is.

Again guys please write in show pics. Like Ukraider did on the "Butterscotch" Highway Tele. Again, if you can come up with an address, I would love to buy a Butterscotch player!

I missed out on White Marshall Class 5 that I wanted I confirmed my bid 16 seconds before the auction was over and they said I did not win. My bid was higher. I have gone round and round with Ebay over it. The guy who won it payed less than what I confirmed that I would pay... Oh well, I need to quit whining over it. I am enjoying having smaller tube amps now that I have lost my hearing :-). I am going through this small tube amp phase, which is probably healthier for me.

If you have a Highway One Tele and want to put up pics please do. Any other Fender products would be okay as well=-]. We just are heart broken over Fender not making them anymore. I may try to pick up a couple more if I can. Ramen noodles and koolaid are huge sacrifice for such a fun guitar.

nolastrat,

I bought a MIM tele for my daughter for her 13th birthday. A black one. When she opened it she let me play it. I never liked Teles before but it really impressed me. The new bridge, tight fitting joints and perfect finish. I ordered me one the next day. In (yup) midnight wine. I have done some electrical mods but it is my go to guitar. I really like mine. Have fun with yours.

Please put some of the MIM pictures up. I think we can all appreciate them. I am growing a strange fondness for the MIM's. I almost put a copper colored one on layaway today! I am losing my mind!

Hey, have fun and teach your daughter how to have fun with it as well. I am like you I was not big on Tele's in the late 80's. I got my first Gibson back then and had it until about 3 years ago. Sold it off with a 1954 Black Beauty reissue LP, AA cherry sunburst LP, Gold top LP and a Honey burst LP that were amazing. I picked up my first tele in the early 90's and the sustain was incredible, it weighed more than the Honey burst Les Paul. It was turquoise with a rosewood fretboard, a little rare. Almost had a fight over who was going to buy it. But after that first Tele, I grew fond of them. I recently picked up the Hwy One Tele and the MIM and now I am wanting more. I believe it is something in the finish!!! heh heh I like my guitars lighter and bought the MIM to do some experimenting (reduce the weight with some weird routing that no one could tell), but I thinking about not doing the experimenting now!!!! I need to just buy one and start doing all the crazy stuff I want to do so I don’t get attached so quickly!

I hope folks are enjoying reading some of the stories especially my crazy antics please put up more like no pedal. I enjoy hearing about other folks and their enjoyment with one of the greatest past times of history: making music! It soothes the soul.

Just to let you know, I do not have much money, and what I have bought I saved, used federal income tax check, or Ramen noodles and Kool-Aid. Yeah you really think I am kidding about the Ramen noodles! I can spend on food alone over 75 dollars a week not eating out. After saving a month or two I buy an amp or guitar from my dealer, ebay, or craigslist. Be careful when buying from the last two especially the last. There are good deals, but there are also scams.

I enjoy playing music and I love guitars. Like I put in the last post, I came very close to putting another guitar on layaway. It was a MIM but it had captured my heart. I may go play it some more. I need to slow down and buy some amps that for different stages/ranges. I was wanting and hoping to get a Fender Tweed Blues Deluxe from a friend. I had my eyes on a Fender Tweed Blues Deville 4x10 as well. I want a good range from low wattage to higher wattage. I still want a Tiny Terror Orange like Jessup demonstrated for us earlier in the forum with his Beautiful Hwy One Tele loaded with Lindy Fralin Pickups! Something good about that amp is it allows you to go from 7watts to 15watts which is good for another step up from my 5 watt Marshall Class 5. I used to own large High wattage amps for years and used them for large stage and outdoor gear, which especially outdoors you do need.

I am getting older and I enjoy the smaller amps and not having to carry some large gear. I have not heard from my Fender dealer on my new Midnight Wine Hwy One to replace my other one. If it was not in warranty, I would do like NJessup and put some Fralin pickups in and be done with it. Another side is wanting them to see there is a problem that they may need to fix in factory or other situation. Not that I cannot fix electrical items. I do have a degree in Electrical/Electronics and 8 years with working in the field.

I know I am rambling on, but I do notice that many people are coming to this forum to read, I hope I give safe, accurate information and help promote a guitar company I really like. I hope I can give info that will help. I do have something going on with my new MIM and I will share it with you in the coming days. I have a situation going on with it. If I don't get it straightened out, I may need to ask for help or look on the forum! It is asthetics nothing about design or quality! Please enjoy your gear and have fun! Please take and share pics of your Hwy Ones or your MIMs, I don't think anyone here would object! I love seeing them. You think I am just saying that, I purposely visit shops weekly, I know they think I am a weirdo! I like to see the new gear that comes in, the sales, and of course the new used gear that gets bought.

My Hwy One Tele still pops and scratches while I am playing the front pickup. I am using no pedals. I play through a Marshall Class 5 with Groove Tube preamps and 1 Mesa Boogie Output, I know it is only 5 watts. I have a stratocaster and it never make the same noise one it. My Made in Mexico, which I have played for the last week, does not make the sound either. It is killing me. The folks at the store I bought it from are willing to trade it out with another midnight wine just like it. I have set this one up and have enjoyed playing it so much; I just want to figure out what the problem is, because she has grown on me. I love her.... I know I have serious issues.

If anyone who is knowledgeable about gear, electronics or is from Fender that knows what it could be. I would greatly appreciate it. Of course I take into the store and it only does twice and one salesman hears it the other does not. They are still cool with me if I want to change it out. Again if feel like I have a sweet girl friend who needs a little help and does not need to be dumped. I know I am weird, and if you read some of the stuff on this forum you will see. Thanks Fender and Brad Traweek.

Broken hearted,
Nolastrat

No decision made. I do not know if they would be willing to check the pickup at the factory. I may talk with them about that option. I know waxing can be a problem. I should just say to the devil with it and go to Lindy Fralin, but I've got a lot of money invested in this little guitar, even at the great deal my salesman gave me. I know I am a nerd!

Oh yeah, great news! The cops came tonight. I got two complaints in less than 10 minutes of playing Mary had a little lamb. I know the cops here and it was no big deal. Amazing that a 5 watt amp can cause someone to get upset. I say grow a pair and come talk to me first and then if we cannot agree, then let us call our friendly neighborhood heroes!!!

Ah it feels good. The last band I was in when we did private parties, and the cops didn't come we did not live up to our name: Signal 57 White County GA signal for noise ordinance violation. =P I am not an advocate of being a crummy neighbor and playing long hours and late. Tonight it was only a few minutes and I was about to quit. It was not even 10 o’clock. Oh well.

It still feels good!

Holy Highway One Telecaster Batman!!! She is beautiful stratmansteve! I like how dark it is before going towards the lighter color! I've not seen one with contrast like yours. She is beautiful.
I went into a guitar store the other day that had one Hwy One Tele left that was a triburst and the salesman had just sold it!!!! I said I was just in here a couple of days ago where is the Hwy One Tele and he said, "I had to move it so I gave a guy a great deal." I was like, man had you told me that the other day, I would have put it on layaway immediately!
Stratmansteve thanks so much for sharing your beautiful guitar with us.

Well I am going nuts... I ordered one of the new Marshall Class 501RED. I know I have a green one, but the red one has the new switch to lower the wattage down to 1 watt, which will help in the dorm room here! hehhehe just another excuse to buy gear. They are like skittles… When it comes I will be sure to put up pics!

I went into a guitar shop that will remain nameless and looked in their used section for a copper MIM Tele that I liked. I walked around could not find it. I went over to a display area and lo and behold the same guitar (missing toggle knob, reversed controls, 60th ann., color and distinct markings) hanging up like it was a new guitar with a price tag that was roughly $200 more than what the sticker that was on it last week in the used section! I called one of the salesmen on it and he claimed someone made a mistake and stuck it into the room. Later I spoke with the manager he said he had no idea that the guitar had been in the used room or that it had been moved to it's new location. Interestingly enough, he would not go look at the guitar with me or see the potential of a possible sale, from both the salesman and the manager. Fishy to me, Oh yeah, someone had put on a new pick guard. Sure was an expensive pick guard. Still why not investigate it and still try to sell me the product. Again fishy. The salesman acted as if he was too busy to deal with me and there were only 3 customers in the store with about 10 sales reps. I could be wrong, but something is fishy.

The Highway One Teles are still out there, you just have to look for them and ask the sales people in the big box stores, if you really want one. As far as Fender's website goes they are not listed anymore, which makes me think that they are now officially out of production.

Again Thanks stratmansteve! We need more pics and stories. Who knows maybe Fender will have a change of heart about the product.

Nolastrat.

If I had a wife, my butt would be in so much trouble, not unless she was the cute saleswoman who helped put my Fender Champion 600 on layaway! I know I have a serious problem going on here. More guitars, more amps..... Is there a program available for us types? heh heh heh.

I'm to set in on a jam session on Frenchman St. here in New Orleans. I played professionally and semi-professionally for a couple of decades. It has been 10 years since I have gotten up in front of a crowd and jammed on some good blues. My chops, hands, fingers are not like they used to be. I think it will be a good time. We will see how it goes.

I am not sure if I will use the Hwy One Tele, Hwy One Strat or the MIM. If it were my gig, I would bring all three. The Hwy One Tele pickup issue has not been resolved yet. I really concerned that it might start acting up in the middle of the gig. So is it the Hwy One Tele or the MIM. I'm leaning towards the MIM. I may check them both out before leaving and making the decision.

As soon as I get these amps in I will post pics and maybe some sound liinks. The Marshall Class5red is to be here on Friday and the Fender Champion 600 I may get out of layaway this week as well!

Nolastrat

P.S. am I starting my own store?

Missed the jam session from being up all night with the storm and concerned with friends and their needs: being dry, food, water, etc. Got back from having lunch about 4:30 Sunday afternoon and laid down to take a short nap and wound up sleeping through two alarm clocks until 9:45. I went to the club anyway and they guys had just finished.I apologized profusely and they understood and want me to come back next show.

Met some other musicians and played at Checkpoint Charlie’s and got good applaudes and thank yous for the Allman Brother's tunes played. I went to Cafe Prytania and played for them. I was told by them that I could come back and do whatever I wanted personal or group wise. I like playing with a team, so I may put some small group together with a 3-hour set. I may also do some acoustic stuff as well. Really excited first time being back on the stage in almost 10 years. The gear held up good especially the amp (Marshall class 5 retubed) I did not let my Hwy One acclimate like I should and usually do with any of my gear and it showed! My b and g-string kept going out of tune. When I let my instruments properly acclimate I usually have little to no problems at all. I had a blast at the last place I let the little Marshall roll! 10 on the vol, treb, mid, and bass!!! The place loved it! Of course I enjoyed it too. Saw where I need to work, but as the newspapers say a good time was had by all.

One of the Bass players I met tonight on Frenchman St. is with the symphony here in NOLA. He invited me to sit in with his group in the coming week. I feel really out of my league playing with his group in the future! He is a good fellow.

Good stuff going on especially if I can score the tweed blues deluxe and deville, then I will chill on the gear purchasing for a few hours! hehehhehhe

P.S. always let your instrument acclimate especially if you live in an extremely humid area!!!

Well, it has been a little over two weeks since I posted something. I have had much writing, reading and work to do. So for the one person who is faithful to read my ramblings on of madguitarist, I am sorry.

I have picked up some new friends for my Highway One Telecaster. Oh, yes there are pictures, I am not going to tease you. I got my Fender Champion 600 out of lay-a-way and I ordered a red Marshall class 5. I have enjoyed them so much. I was frustrated the other day and was playing so loud hoping campus police would come, yet no one showed up! Usually they will listen for a while and enjoy it, before telling me to shut it down. Well here are some pics.

Image
Image

I am still having popping noise coming from my front pickup of my Hwy1tele and it is driving me nuts! The shop were I bought brought in another and said I swap out, but I like mine and just want the pickup fixed, if that is what the problem is. Several of my buds with 30+ years experience say that should be what the problem is. I proposed to the shop to let a Fender certified tech remove it and send it to them and or have it replaced, or let the Fender cert. tech rewax it. It is not rocket science. I am trying to not void my warranty. But if push comes to shove, I will just send it off to Lindy Fralin and see what they can figure out. I will try to drop an email to them and see what their thoughts are on it, because the Fender group has been a little slow on figuring out the why. Fast on the replacement, but slow on why it is doing it. I've owned several guitars over the years and never had one to do this, even my pieces of junk. I enjoy the guitar too much to just swap it out. I would like to find a couple more like the butterscotch that was a couple of pages back, but our friend has yet to release the info on how to order from the European supplier. Any way sorry again for not writing and amusing all one or two of you folks that read this kinda of guitar tripe. hehehehheh
