I played a Highway One Tele yesterday and absolutely loved the feel and tone. I went on Fender's website for more info and cannot find any info on the Tele. Has Fender discontinued this line of the Highway One? I noticed they have dropped the other pics and options for the Higheway One Stratocaster except for a black one. Any info and remarks welcomed.

There have been a few other posts regarding this... from what I can gather, it seems like it may well indeed be on it's way out. People have been speculating that it's being "replaced" by the American Special but the two models don't seem particularly similar to me.

It might have been cool to have just upgraded the HWY 1... to have kept the nitro finish but maybe offered some new colors and Texas Special pickups. The necks look very similar and I think they're using the same tuners. Who knows, I'm no marketing genius but I'm sure someone at Fender has a master plan... they're able to charge more for the American Special than they were charging for the HWY1, maybe it's all about the $$$.

I don't actually know the costs associated with poly vs. nitro finishing... it seems like most nitro finished guitars cost more so perhaps Fender is just trying to raise profit margins by doing away with the HWY1 and finishing the American Specials in poly and raising the price. The price of a nitro MIM road worn guitar is more than both the HWY1 and Am. Special... and I think the aging process on those is pretty automated so I can't imagine that's why they're more expensive.

Anyhow, the HWY1 seemed like a pretty successful line for Fender, and based on what many here on the forum have expressed, it will be missed by many if, in fact, it is going away.

Thanks Jamguy. I hope to pick one up if not the one I played last night. Folks at the store loved the sound I was able to get out of it through a Vox Night Train. It has a maple fret board, All but one of my guitars I have owned have been rosewood. I still liked how it felt in my hands. I hope I can work out deal for it.

Just wanted to comment on the HWY 1 Night Train combo...They were meant for each other. If you can find a HWY1 at a shop or on ebay, BUY IT!

+1

Yeah, they're still around for sure. I've seen posts regarding people still finding them (NOS) in some of the other colors they used to offer...I guess more so in the case of HWY1 strats, but perhaps the same would apply to teles as well. Does anyone know if they offered the HWY1 teles in daphne blue as they did the strats? You can also fin oodles of HWY1 tele bodies up for grabs in ebay auctions...I just got a great deal on one for the project I'm currently working on. The necks however, seem to command far more $$$.

I'd be curious if you could construct a HWY1 tele from parts...using all HWY1 hardware & pups, for less than a new one? It might be a fun project if you're not concerned w/ resale value, and like putting together your own guitars :?:

i think the highway one is on its way out. I have been looking at highway one teles and i have noticed that they have gone up in price about 30 bucks, major stores are not getting steady shipments in, and are slowly running out of different options

Thanx man! Orange amps are really sweet, they're modeled after old Marshalls. The combination plays like no other.

NJessup that is a great combination! You cannot go wrong with Fralin pickups. I think that was the first time I heard the combination with a an Orange amp. Excellent tone.
On the topic of Highway One Tele/Strat line I believe they are being phased out or into the American Classic. Slap some Gloss finish on them and charge an extra $100... Oh well.
I have been out of the music/gear scene for about 10 years. I sold about all my gear several years ago(Fenders/Gibsons/Marshalls/FenderAmps). I find myself back into it again with prices more than doubled or tripled and gear made in Vietnam and China. You would figure that price would reflect the origin.
I bought a Hwy1 strat last month and I am looking to buy the Tele I mentioned above. I have been in several stores lately and all but one still have the Hwy1 line and they have reduced the prices on them to move them.
I did not not know that the Vox NT15 was designed for the Tele... I stumbled across the combo by accident. I was playing through Fender amps in the store and decided to try the Vox. I kept coming back to it. It sure is a cute Vietnamese production. I cannot help but like it.
After Seeing NJessup's video, I am interested in trying an Orange combination with the Tele. We will see.

Jamguy, Mainburner, Cec,
I picked up the Hwy1 Tele! I worked out a deal that was cheaper than what I found on ebay. What I paid, I could not have bought a loaded body w/o the neck. It was a demo model and had a couple of scuff marks. Nobody had messed with the setup or action yet. It is still within factory specs. It plays so well! Midnight Wine with a maple neck. If anyone knows how to remove scuffs off of the satin finish I would greatly appreciate the advice. I know how to do it on gloss finishes, but I am afraid it would change the affected area to shinier finish. I may just leave them alone for character.
I am looking at an older Fender Blues Deville (tweed) 4-10 ("blue alnico") one owner amp. I played it yesterday. Immediately I noticed a steady hum, like a bad ground, when I turned the standby switch on. Other than the hum, the amp tone is utterly fantastic. I am thinking the great price is worth buying the amp and attempting to fix it. The price is cheaper than buying a "lunchbox" amp without a speaker cabinet. Do not get me wrong, I am still wrestling over the Vietnamese Vox NT15. It's tone is wonderful as well. I am afraid to try an Orange lunchbox for further addition of a tough decision :D. I did look at a Mesa Boogie TA. It has some amazing features, but the price tag is more than what I am willing to or able to pay at this time.

Wondering how a Tele (ANY Tele) would sound with my Blues Jr. amp??

Congrats on the new Tele... very cool indeed!

As far as those scuff marks, I've used auto scratch remover before (by hand) but you'll need to do the whole body or you're going to end up with a shiny spot where the scuffs were. A word of caution, the finish is really thin on these so too much buffing will burn right through it. Also keep in mind that often polishing these bodies will highlight the orange peel like finish. If you look really close, you may see little dimples in the finish- they aren't completely smooth. It doesn't bother me, the orange peel, but others are bothered by it. I'd be inclined to leave it alone unless you're willing to experiment with polishing the whole thing...

Here's a link to pics of my tele body after polish/wax. I like the shine better than the matte but it's all just a matter of personl preference. Again, nice work on the new tele...get us some pictures up here so we can drool on it too :)

Thanks Jamguy.

I think I will leave the scuff marks for now and let it add to the character... Out of all my guitars I have owned, I have never had scuff marks like these on the front. The scuff marks on the back, I had a friend do a beltbuckle number on my AA heritage cherry sunburst Lespaul. After you mentioned it, I was able to see how thin the finish is. Oddly enough, last night I saw the orange peal. Yeah, I will let it add to the character.

Your pics and project look great. I would have headed for the project route, had I not been able to work the deal I did. I do want to do a project soon. I got a Fender TSA002 case thrown in the deal as well! I was hoping to score a tweed case, I think I was pushing it just a little.

Wow, interesting. My image for my profile shows up, and yet my links to my pics do not. I can cut and paste the link from the "Xs" into my browser URL and the picture comes up... I bet I probably put the link to the page rather than the picture. sorry folks.
