I recently purchased a 2008 American Std. Tele. (been wanting one forever). I have upgraded it to the Vintage Noiseless Pickups. The bridge pup sounds amazing. The two pick ups together sound week and thin. The neck pick up sounds very muddy (I may need to get used to the tele sound - been a strat player for most of my musical career). The wiring diagram that came with the pup's is the one used to wire my tele. I've check it several times and I'm confident that pictoraly - it's correct. Am I missing something else? What can I do to verify this was done correctley?

I have a 2007 Am Std Strat that I upgraded to the noiseless - it went flawless. Installation was easy and the sound is excellent. Not quite vintage sounding as advertised - but that is not why I bought them.

I would begin by checking your solder joints that you soldered from the neck pickup.
I would re-solder them to be assured that you have good solder joints.

You don't indicate whether of not there is any hum associated with the neck pickup, which would indicate that one of the two stacked "humbuckler" pickups was not working.

MickJagger,

Thank you for the tips. I will re-solder and check it out. It does have some hum when using the neck pickup by itself. Is there a way to verify the neck pickup is working correctly with a volt / ohm meter?

A simple adjustment that I didn't think to discuss before would be to try raising the neck pickup to see if that makes a difference.
Just make sure that none of the strings contact the chrome cover when fretted at the 22nd fret.

If you have a multimeter, you can try measuring the pickup across the pickup wiring solder terminals.
Set you multimeter for 20K ohms and test the connections using proper polarity.

Vintage "Noiseless" Telecaster Neck Pickup
DC Resistance: 12.0K ohms

Vintage "Noiseless" Telecaster Bridge Pickup
DC Resistance: 8.6K ohms

The Vintage "Noiseless" Telecaster specifications were obtained from the ZZounds.com web page linked below, as it doesn't seem that Fender lists the Vintage "Noiseless" Telecaster pickups in their Accessories web pages.

The Ohm ratings cited above may possibly be reversed as the bridge pickup Ohm rating is normally higher from my experience. But Steve's Music Center posts the same Ohm ratings as ZZounds.
