I played a Tele at the music store the other day and it was AWSOME. The only thing I would change would be putting a tremelo on it.

Some of them do have trems. The J5 triple has a trem and the 60's Custom has a Bigsby.

Unless its a Bigsby, tremolos on Telecasters are not too popular. I don't like them on any guitar personally, but Teles are sort of like Les Pauls and SGs where you'll see one every now and then with a tremolo, but I think they look weird with them. One of the main things I hate about tremolos, other than Bigsbys, is that you end up taking out a huge chunk of wood just under the bridge, and then they don't sound like they have enough "balls" when you compare a trem and non-trem guitar side by side....Thats just my opinion and experiences though. Anyways, if a Tele with a trem is what you want, I suggest either looking into custom guitars, or learn about building and modding guitars yourself.

a mustang or jaguar trem would work. Overall I'm against sticking trems on teles as a standard, but I do encourage modding your own instrument the way you want. getcha a bigsby.

I am working on modding guitars and basses. I would like to get a bass trem for my jazz bass. I think about buying a brown sunburst tele on ebay and putting a Kahler trem on it.

There is no way you should ever talk about putting a trem on a Tele. Bigsby yes, trem, no. They are solid bridges, where you have to make your fingers to do the work. Some people who play strats or jazz boxes don't like teles, but they just don't understand. The tele is one of the most basic of guitars, yet able to produce any kind of tone or play any kind of style. If you want a trem, but a strat, if you want to play a guitar, buy a tele!

the reason I started looking at tele's was that they generally are tremelo..less.

I wanted the mechanics nice and simple. And I wanted the strings to say in tune, which was an issue with my last guitar.

Find a Bigsby on Ebay and put it on yourself. No big deal. Or, the geek at your local Guitar Center could do it for you. If you want a trem, just do it. Who cares what anybody else thinks!!?? Make it your own.

Got one on my '85 MIJ, love the extra versatility, especially for lead work, though mine is a bit odd. Has a Type II tremolo, similar to a Floyd Rose non-locking, so if I break a string I have to replace it before I continue playing. Keeping it in tune is not a problem since it has a locking nut. Also, since it has an SSH pup setup I got the best of both, which further adds to its versatility. You should have seen the looks I got when I checked it in to GC to buy a new case! My next Tele, though, will have a fixed bridge. I love my MIJ! I say if you want any guitar with a trem, go for it! Check it out:

I would echo Amy Winehouse on this...NO..NO..NOOO! A tele is a vintage unit, the longest electric guitar in production, longer than a Les Paul. It gave birth to the stratocaster, which is a "shaved" telecaster. It covers a lot of ground in sound by offering differing configurations. The stratocaster covers the tremelo ground, and offers a perfect reason to have both.

This the granddad of electric guitars, and a vintage look is what its all about.

The only pitch bending a Tele needs to be doing is with your fingers, or a B-bender.
But that's my opinion only, so take it for what it's worth, as I'm about to buy my first Tele after having an American Strat since '99 and I blocked the tremolo on that one after a few months.

I ordered a B5 Bigsby vibrato & bridge kit from GC online a while back.
Installed it myself in 4 hrs, the instructions were "crack on".
Also swapped the bridge p/u for a Kent Armstrong hot noiseless.
I could NOT be happier.

Vibratos are not for everyone, but Bigsbys are the way to go IF you want one on a Tele.
