Ann Wilson though...now that is an icon. quite possibly the best female voice in the history of rock and metal...

The only disagreement I have with the above is of Nancy Wilson not being an icon. Millions know who she is and surely, she has/had an awful lot of staying power on the music scene. FWIW, Heart as a band didn't take off until Nancy joined. It was her songwriting and harmonizing abilities with Ann which made them a major act.

Sidestepping whether one thinks Nancy is/was hot to look at, consider her playing abilities if she were a male. I'm sure most would find nothing remarkable about it and for those who are into her style in general, Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston of the Doobie Brothers, just to name two, are leaps and bounds ahead in this vein.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I haven't been exposed to Heart in quite a while, and as much as I hate to do it, I am
going to have to retract my earlier endorsement.
I do believe that if it weren't for Heart we would still be looking at Joan Baez for the
role model for young women.
As far as an Artist Tele I just have never seen her play a tele?
Les Paul, Martin and Ovation acoustics, yes but I don't remember seeing her play a tele.

And in spite of their records, on YT they have some live performances and they really don't offer much more than a garage band.

Okay--first of all--All she does is play rhythm?
What is that supposed to mean?

Rhythm is more important to the song than shredding.
Or playing a cool solo.

But she didn't "just" play rhythm.

She is a talented guitarist who could probably play rings around a lot of people here.

So yeah, I have to disagree with that pert of your post.

I don't think a Nancy Wilson model would sell. There aren't a lot of people who try to emulate her as they do with Clapton, Yngwie, Dick Dale, etc.

In all actuality it isn't about ability as much as it's about SALEability.

I think it's very interesting to hear what people are saying here, both about Nancy as a player and the concept of the 'Artist Series' guitars.
I think perhaps the gist of this post was to address the WHOLE catalog of artists and how they are represented/commemorated by the manufacturing industry. I just selected Nancy Wilson as a representative artist of much acclaim. As for Tele players, I could have picked any number of artists. I picked her mainly because her Tele is very specific, has a unique appearance and is not "Stock" by today's Fender catalog. Yes, if I REALLY wanted one, I could have it made exactly the same by some custom shop, but that is not the point of this dialog.
Again, it seems to me that the whole 'Artist Series' thing is very very limited and not handled in a fashion that is befitting to the concept. I can't quite decide if this is a true honorable nod to the artist who are listed, or a distinct insult to those that aren't.
I just don't know....

Well the fact that there is (or was anyway) a Squier Avril Lavigne Tele does lend support to posts above this...

Why is there not a Chrissy Hynde model? She's certainly been more true to the Tele than Nancy. There's not a Chrissy Hynde model, is there?

Nothing against Nancy, IMO she's a very good guitar player in a major recording act. I'm sure she provides creative input to the unit and definitely adds to the visual aspect. I just don't think it would be a big seller for Fender.

On the Avril Lavigne model. I would think they put it in the Squier family to keep the price down and attract buyers from the age group that primarily listens to her music.
Do they still make the model? I would be interested what the sales figures are.

I'm sure there have been artists approached by Fender that because of contract demands, lawyers or whatever, their models never came to be. Nancy may already been approached, I don't know.

What a beauty strapped on that cutie! Seriously, it would be easy to offer two models, a Chrissie Hynde with standard p'ups, and a Nancy Wilson with a hotter bridge p'up, and a Humbucker at the neck with a blue paint job on the headstock for a few ducats more. Presumably with an alder body. I'd buy one to join my '52 vintage Hot Rod Tele. C'mon Fender Fender, a few of us are asking! :D

WAIT!! I've been waiting for a Lita Ford Artist Series Strat for years!
I'm convinced that doing my Jimi Hendrix "strat eat-out" on stage would be a lot more fun, if not "deadly" with a Lita Ford Strat!!

Lita has already an endorsement with BC Rich guitars. I never seen her playing a Strat. She usually plays a Mockingbird and a double-neck Bich.

BC Rich has built a Custom Shop Lita Ford signature Warlock in the mid-1980s. This guitar is no longer in production.

What? Why? Why not? The guitar is simply good-looking as well as good-sounding. I like the headstock painted same as the body. It looks tied together, like a '50s hot rod. The same could be done with other metal-flake colors too. Like Mac Powell of Third Day said of their bassist Tai Anderson- "We weren't looking for a good bassist, just a good-looking bassist. I'd take Nancy's good looking Tele any day!

You forget mentioning Sheryl Crow, Susie Tedeschi, Joni Mitchell and Meredith Brooks, who are talented hot Tele-freaking chicks. These babes deserve a signature Tele for sure.
