I am trying to find out information on the pickups in my 72 Deluxe NOS.
Are these the same pickups that are in the current Mexican 72s, or are they better?

My Custom Shop 72 Deluxe date is 03/05/07, Serial R24278.

Thanks for the help guys.

Sorry can't give you an answer but I've always wondered what NOS stands for so I'd be glad if you could answer this.

Cheers

Not the OP but "NOS" stands for "New Old Stock" on the CS-built Time Machine guitars.

It used to be they had 3 "styles" of finish on the Time Machines:

NOS - "New Old Stock" as in the guitars are factory-fresh or "not aged" if you prefer. As if you could get in a time machine, go back to the year the guitar is supposed to be from and buy it brand new.

Closet Classic - lightly aged, not abused; essentially the finish is settled, not really glossy, might have some finish cracks, and the metal parts have a patina on them but not necessarily rusted. They range from the "someone bought it, played it a little bit and stored it" to "this one lived only in a studio so it has a some wear and a few minor dings".

Relic - well used with worn finish, parts could be rusty, etc. The guitar has been constantly played and gigged.

I don't think Fender does the Closet Classic finish any more; just the NOS and Relic.

Thanks for the reply John C and rocksully. I kept seeing NOS in adverts and wondering what it meant, now I know, thanks.

"NOS" or "new-old stock" is really a "misnomer" in the music industry.
It's meant to signify a new guitar that is built to the specs of an old guitar in new condition.

Normally, "NOS" or "new-old stock" means an "actual" old stock item in "new" condition.
An NOS RCA 6L6 black plate power tube is an RCA 6L6 tube may have been made in 1961 and was never used.
An NOS '67 Corvette stinger hood is a Corvette hood with the stinger scoop that was made in 1967 and never used.

If a '52 Tele reissue were really NOS, it would either be completely made from actual 1952 guitar components that were found in some previously unknown Fender vault, or was a complete guitar from 1952 that was never used that came from that same vault, or from a Fender time capsule, or otherwise was brought to the present from 1952 by a Fender time traveler.
