Hello everybody,

I bought this beautiful instrument on ebay in which description was that it is rare 1997 Fender 52' RI tele in black finish. Since than I found very little information about this guitar. So my question is: does such guitar exists? Did Fender really made this special edition (copper, black, black with gold) of 52' RI tele?

Only problems with it I had so far is that I thought there is no tone control when switch to the third position (bridge - neck - old wiring) but on my tele, the tone control still works. Also if I'm not touching anything metal it makes a lot of noise (bad grounding i guess) and I wonder if such a guitar should be this badly manufactured.

It was delivered in classic tweed case with weirdly thin strap, no certificate. Serial number on plate says: 21097.

I would really appreciated an answer and estimate price if possible.

Thank you very much.

Sounds to me like it was built and operates just like a 52 Tele, hence the name, "52 Reissue Tele". You should do a little on-line research into how 52 Teles were designed.

Thin straps are what were used in the 50s.

Unless it is a Custom Shop guitar, it won't come with any sort of certificate.

From the Fender website:

5 digits stamped on bridge plate: U.S. '52 Vintage Telecaster 1988-present (Check neck date for specific year)

Photos would be helpful.

Thanks for quick answer.

I did A LOT of research.

1)You are right about the strap only problem was I always seen different one - sort of cheap looking yellow, with Fender logo all over it.

2) I read a lot of stuff about certificate. Almost every 52' RI I have seen and also seller said he had one, but lost it, but somewhere else i read that they stopped making certificates and you could buy them for additional fee.

3) I know about this, it just seem too easy to fake.

In fact, only thing I would like to know if there really is a black issue. If so, I have no doubt that this guitar is a real deal.

Photos of the guitar, underside of pickguard/pickups, body routing and any stampings, the neck date, etc. are needed to draw any sort of conclusion.

Questions about the strap should be addressed to the seller. The seller claiming that he had a certificate but lost it is a red flag.

Hi there,
according to my trace of the serial number, and assuming its in all original condition, this guitar traces back to being completed in March 1997 and received by our distributor at the time in the UK. The Part number and description listed were as follows;

Although the 52 Tele's were the only non-Custom Shop guitar to have Certificates to my knowledge.....we stopped including them in these somewhere around 2006.
