Hey :)

I rediscovered this odd guitar in my basement and decided to revive this post from 2011 with new and more pictures trying to figure out in 2013 what kind of Telecaster is this one!

The 2011's post said:

"The tele characteristics are:

- 1993 Fender Telecaster Made in Japan
- Ash Body
- Sperzel Tuners
- Texas Custom Special Pickups
- Sanding done by a luthier (not Fender)

Previous owner said that the serial number is O035272 Japan Silver Series, but the decal was changed by this guy, so data is no longer visible".

This are new pictures I got last night!

I probably guess that the neck and the body come from different guitars and were put together and sanded later on...but who knows

So what do you think! REAL, FAKE or SOMETHING ELSE (mod squier i.e.)? 8)

With the exception of the sanding...looks okay...although...

I can't see the s/n nor the decal well. And the neck appears unfinished?
Has he a picture of the bottom of the neck, or the pocket, itself?

The sanding has been applied to the neck too so this is why you see the necks bottom unfinished on picture 4.

Unfortunately he doesnt have a picture in detail of the bottom of the neck and the s/n has disappeared due to decal's replacement.

What do you think?

I imagine even an expert would have trouble giving you a sure answer to that with those pics. Seems odd hes avoiding the major areas of the guitar and keeping his distance. If I had a genuine guitar id be proud of those details that he isnt showing lol

This is more personal taste than anything but the bling in contrast to the worn effect looks odd to me, its like someone took a road worn Tele and added brand new hardware, just doesnt look natural.

I took 5 months shopping for my Tele so dont rush in mate, let a good one come to you.

The toploader bridge is '80s era Fender Japan and the body is consistent with having a toploader bridge.
I don't know if Japanese Fender Telecasters continued to use that bridge into the 90's, although it's possible.
Obviously, the Sperzel tuning machines are new, and it is impossible to tell anything about the neck, including fret wear, from the photos.
I would be a bit careful, unless the guitar is in the $200 range.

I would avoid that one. That relic/finish looks awful IMO. Definitely nothing like a truly aged Fender Telecaster. Since you have to buy online without playing it first, I would look around a bit more for a better deal and something better.

I've been dome some extra research and found out that the guitar was a normal standard telecaster 1993 MIJ without any sanding effect on either the body or the neck. The relic finish has been recently made by a luthier, so it didn't come directly from Fender.

Considering this point, is this guitar looking like a 1993 MIJ real Fender Telecaster just with some odd extra "worn effect"? Thank you for all your help in advance, fellas!

Haha I don't think so prices here are yet the same or even more expensive than the ones you get in the US :D Any new conclusions you had of my telecaster dilemma with the pictures I recently uploaded?

Oh man! Somebody took an electric sander to that thing! It makes me sad to just to look at it. How about this? You can get a used MEX Standard real cheap -- the more beat up the cheaper. Take some sand paper and coffee grounds and relic the thing yourself. You can do a much better job of it than this offering, I promise. It can be a fun job as well.

I would not buy this guitar...the relic job was NOT done by Fender. This is someones attempt to make it look older and more vintage than it is (done poorly I migth add).
