I think its primarily the finish. The highway one has a less expensive finish.

I have one, and I love it... huge frets, satin finish and hot pickups... the front pickup sounds great for lead work... I run mine through a pair of classic 30 amps with a TS9....

Sweet tone and easy to play, just don't squeeze too hard when playing chords in the open position.

I asked that question at the local guitar shop, and was told the finish and the pickups. Then I asked myself if your making a pick up why would you make one thats cheap? How much more could it cost to make a good one? I mean we are only talking about some wire and magnets maybe a small capacitor. It's all marketing, a way to create a cash flow. And yes I like to upgrade my stuff because it's fun.

I owna highway one and love it. The main difference between that and an american tele standard is the finish and the pickups. The pickups have a warmer more distortion friendly sound to them but they're still twangy. Also the finish on a Highway One is much thinner which allows your wood to age quicker.

The bridges between the two guitars are different, the HW1 uses three steel barrel type (old school) bridge while the AMS uses six individual string adjusters.
