Is a Mexican Tele a good step up from a squier strat for a beginning guitarist wanting to play blues (SRV), rock (lead/rhythm) and country? Have the oppty to buy a brand new '01-02 blue agave standard tele from local music store. Appreciate any input.

I think that is a good choice. THe MIM Tele's are great!! good guitar to start with and can be modded to made even better. I think you are on the right track!!

Thats a natural progression to go to a Standard Tele from a Squier. My son has that same agave blue tele and it is a great guitar.

I was going to buy a Squier Tele just after Christmas, but my brother convinced me to get the MIM Standard Tele. I got the Sunburst model and I am not disappointed with it!

I am a tele guy I had an Agave Blue tele and it was one hell of an axe. I even modified it with a new set of pups and ar way, it growled. Your moving in the right direction, with the Tele. Though I am wondering if you're coming from a Squier strat, why not a MIM strat? Especially if your playing SRV?

That depends sometimes, because a few of the MIM Teles I have played were just the same as and no better than my Squier Standard Teles...

Good question. I'm still a beginner and like the look, feel and sound of the tele. I like it's versatility - can do western, blues, etc. Also, the price is extremely nice! Thanks for the great input.
