Okay I've had the idea for a while to build a pine telecaster body. I saw some of Ron Kirn's beautiful Barnbusters and thought they were very interesting.

A few month's ago I started looking for the right piece of pine and I got the idea to check out Craigslist and low and behold, there is a pine table being offered for free. Went to check it out and it is exactly the right thickness for a Tele body. I ordered templates from Mr. Kirn and they came in this past week. The table came with benches which are slightly less thick and will be good for practicing my routing. Of course I still need to buy a router. I'm starting this thread to try and force myself to begin the project.

I'll post a pic or two of the table and the templates and of course I'll do my best to document the build here. Just going to do a natural finish with an amber tint, and maybe all black hardware (not sure yet). I've had great luck with GFS pickups on a couple of my Strats, so I'll probably be going with this set:

Hopefully a good choice for a Gatton fan...

Did you plan making a Pinecaster like this one?

Sounds like a cool build!

Yes - something like that. I'll be real happy if if comes out half as nice as that one! That is one sweet looking axe.

Your pinecaster would look and feel much better if you add comfort contours on her, unless you decide to keep the slab body intact.

I think I would like the contours, but I'm not sure I possess the requisite skill to create them.

Did you intend installing a B-Bender and a humbucker in the neck?

Don't be afraid to put body contours in. I would recommend looking my project. I would do a bit of sanding, then hold the body as if playing. The final body fit very well and I'm happy with both the forearm and belly contours. This wasn't a Telecaster, but I think the process would be worth taking a look.

Before I did any wood work, I went to a local guitar store and did a bunch of measuring, along with looking at other guitars I owned which did have contours.

You really are a B-Bender dick.

That guitar looks like a Greek paddle..., with a toilet seat pickguard.
Where's your rowboat, Chromeface?

Best of luck!
Just this weekend I was driving around some back roads and came across a dilapidated barn with what looked like thick pine boards. Unfortunately, not thick enough!. Especially after going thru a planer. I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Might try to find the place again this weekend and scout some more.
