My experience is that you can find differences between each same models, so you might do best to play and listen to both yourself.

Good luck!

From what I know, the standard will be better quality, an all-round better guitar. This does not mean the squier is bad, most people will tell you it is a very good guitar for the money-key phrase-for the money. The standard is also a really good guitar for the money.

I myself am looking at either a standard strat or squier. I have been told the standard is much better on this forum, and prefered it in the shop.

I agree with Mike-try them yourself, each model can be different, and in the end it's down to what you prefer, and what you think is best for you in terms of price/quality compromise. Another tip-look at second hand, at your local shop(s) and on the internet. There are some great deals to be had, often on guitars that have barely been used.

I have a CV 50 and a Baja.
Very different necks, similar sounds. (Baja has a much larger tonal palette)
First advice was best, try them out yourself.

The parts used to make the squier are much cheaper, but they can still last a long time before needing repair/placement.

I own a number of Mexican-made Teles & Strats and also four Squier Teles. three of which I bought used (at very good prices). The new CV Deluxe I bought was $379 vs $499 for a Mex-made Standard. I have found it to be a great guitar to play and the fit/finish is superb as well. I don't think you can really go wrong either way - it should just come down to how the guitar feels under your fingers.

Both are good quality guitars and there's no "better" one as such,as others have suggested, let your hands, eyes and ears be your guide.

Hey guys, thanks for your responses :) I have recently played both and I prefered the Squier, even though the standard is great, I went with the squier:)

Don't go to the TDPRI forum and say anything negative about them over there. Those freaks actually say that the CV is the best guitar and even better than the Fender CS Teles....totally dillusional. They are good starter guitars IMO, but I prefer the MIM Standards. More heft and IMO a better all around guitar no questions asked.
ABS :D

I have had most ever type of telecaster. I have built three from parts from e-bay parts. Spending at least 400-500 for body neck pickups tuners ect. They all turned out good and sold them for little if any profit. Kind of a fun hobby the people that bought the guitars are very happy. Well I stepped up to a USA telecaster and spent 1500.00. It was my retirement present even though I am still working part time. All I can say is get a USA brand new guitar. Some stores will mouse you for one year o interest. Turn on your tuner and see every note at every fret in tune. The perfection of these guitars is over whelming.
I don't want to say you get what you pay for but is the case of telecaster guitars it might hold true. Regards Horton

I own a '52 telecaster and it's the best guitar i've ever played..but now I bought a used Squier classic vibe custom as a spare guitar. I must say I was and still are speechless how good this thing is. This is a serious good Telecaster. if you don't mind what the name on the headstock says, buy one! I changed the bridge for a wilkinson compensated bridge and it sounds great.
You made a good choice I think. Success. :D

I own a Fender American Series Tele and the only other guitar I want is a American Tele Deluxe so my hands are spoiled I would trade my guitar for it in a heartbeat even though mine is discontinued lol but I do go to guitar center and play guitars just for fun or to see if there is something I should set my eyes on. Ive played both the Squier classic vibe custom and the standard Mexican Tele's and I myself am not really a fan of either but if I was looking at both and that is what I could afford/am just looking to spend....I'd have to go with the Mexican Tele to be honest.I have a friend who used one for years and his guitar sounded great plugged in on all of his songs.Ultimately I say play both go to a guitar store and make sure you think about it for a bit cause you can play a guitar for 10 mins and be like yeah I like this but the more you play it you realize maybe its not for me like this part of the body digs in my side or the edges of the neck are too sharp or something else is more appealing. So just take your time picking so you dont regret your choice you want the guitar that feels best for you and make sure you play both plugged into a amp. That is what I suggest. Hope that helped :D
