Well at long last (or so it seemed) I got the neck plate today... it was pretty cool, it's got the big "F" and I had it engraved with my pops' birthday, he passed away about a year ago so it's kind of a tribute to him and a cool way to remember him I thought, anyhow... his birthday would have been a serial number used likely during 66, hence the kind of 60's theme going on with the guitar.

I got the neck mounted but due to a lack of a nut, couldn't really get the bigsby installation finished... it seemed it had potential to go WAY off course so I had to just say STOP before I screwed something up and took it to my guitar guy... he's going to fishing the bigsby install after installing a nut and then get the rest of it sorted out for me... he does an awesome job so I know it's going to come home playing like butter.

Now...the waiting game. Luckily I have plenty of schoolwork to help kill the time!

Thats really cool I never thought of making a guitar a tribute to someone I lost also Im glad you chose to go to a professional instead of making a mistake and not being able to go back or waiting longer to finish it not saying you would have messed it up but just to be on the safe side :)

Well, it's not that far out of the realm of possibilities... and with so much riding on a correct bridge installation... (tuning, string spacing, intonation, etc) I just couldn't afford to screw it up for the sake of learning how not to do it. This way it'll be done up right and it's been a fun little project up til now. By the time she's finished, I'll be done with my first summer session of school and will have some time to jam again...

Now it's time to hit the books...

Will do... I'll probably try and get a video made when I get the time. For now, if anyone's interested, here's a link to my YouTube channel... no tele action but there's some vids playing on the Mustang III, TRRI, and some strat vids (as well as some non-Fender guitar stuff)

Peace out...

"The Two Faces of the Telecaster®"
Thoughts on the musically fascinating double life of Fender’s original electric guitar
http://www.fender.com/news/index.php?di ... rticle=662

Image

"The Telecaster was built for western swing guitarists, introduced by that name in 1951 and thus pre-dating rock ‘n’ roll by nearly half a decade. Its bright signature twang became one of the defining and enduring sounds of country music...

Far removed from the twang of Nashville and Bakersfield, though, the Telecaster has led a fascinating double life. For on the other hand—and often on the other side of the Atlantic—the Telecaster has been the weapon of choice for some of rock’s most inventive legends, innovators and iconoclasts...

Rock ‘n’ roll embraced the Telecaster with open arms and open minds. Rock royals Keith Richards, George Harrison, Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Ray Davies have all played it. So did 1960s psychedelic godfathers Syd Barrett and Jimmy Page. In the mid-1970s, punk patriarch Joe Strummer led a revolution while brandishing a Telecaster.

Later that decade, the Police at first flew the punk flag but made no attempt to disguise the smart chops and startling creativity of Andy Summers, who forged a widely imitated post-punk guitar sound with his battered Telecaster...

No other famous electric guitar model seems to enjoy such a musically versatile dichotomy...."

Well, after a 3 week wait she's finally come home to roost. All I can say is WOW! It plays and sounds AMAZING! Just wanted to share a few pics before I get right back to playing it... I haven't plugged it into the Mustang III yet but through the TRRI and my effects it's utterly mind blowing. I'll try to get a video recorded and posted tomorrow to run through the different settings. If anyone is considering a toneshaper for their tele, pull the trigger. It sounds fantastic and having a 5-way switch with a bunch of non-traditional tones in addition to the regular tele tones is great. I've always been a strat guy but this thing has me wondering why...

Thanks all for the help, input, and commentary along the way! Enjoy the pics...

Real nice looking guitar. I like the look of the Bigsby. I ordered my first Tele on Friday, I can't wait for it to get here.

Cool...yeah, I think I saw the pic you posted in a thread... the natural finish tele w/ the p90's. That's a beauty! The only P90s I've ever really played are in my lap steel... they sound great.

cool build, but from that top pic, it looks like you have your pickguard screws in WAY too tight. might ust be the picture, but the pickguard looks warped around the screwheads. it might be ok for a while, but it might crack around the screwheads eventually...

Yeah...some of it was the picture but yes, it was a little tight all the way around. Also might be the budget P/G from GFS...not quite as thick as a "reg" Fender guard. I think the Fender guards have one more layer, a white one (closest to the guitar body) that this one is missing. Anyhow, I just gave it a little loosening and that seemed to help a bit. Thanks for the keen eye! :)

Fine looking guitar...like the look of the bigsby and you certainly obtained the 60s Tele vibe you were after!

Howdy all...

Well, after a week or so of steady play I'm considering trying to track down some sort of roller bridge for the Bigsby. This is my first experience with them, and while I don't mind not doing dive bombs on the thing, I have noticed that it's hard to use it even gently and have the strings go back to tune, guess it's just the nature of the beast but I think I've found a roller bridge that will work with it which should improve tuning stability.

Has anyone replaced the stock saddles with rollers? Any suggestions for one to try before I take the plunge?
