love the shape of a Tele, and Strat.......spinal and hip arthritis has hobbled me to the point that I MUST play sitting about 75% of the time and the Teles 90 degree edges are perfect for this.
and y'all that are tired of "chasing the Strat" when you're sitting, just drop either a fat pocketknife, bic lighter in a case, or a roll of nickels into your pocket before you sit down.....my CaseXX Sodbuster Jr. keeps my Strat where it needs to be the whole time it's in my lap.

when i'm sitting down a telecaster doesn't really bother me. i like the roughness of it.

when i'm standing up i dont care about it cause its down at my knees johnny ramone style.

I play mine standing and sitting and its comfortable enough, though my sitting is more of a recline. When I play standing up I have it just above my waist, respectable citizen style.
Comfort shouldn't really be an issue unless you are seriously fat/slim.

Just caught this thread but want to add a comment. I am skinny and just bought my first Tele (Baja) which I love. But - since I play sitting down I find it cuts into my side after a while. I also have an Amer. Strat which seems more comfortable to me. I have started to think about contouring the Tele body but it is too pretty for me to screw up so I will just adapt. Fender has just issued the "Pawn Shop" versions and though I have yet to actually see one, there is a version with what appears to be a Strat body and a Tele neck. To my that probably be ideal. Check it out.

Either way you can't go too wrong. :D
