Hi all newbie here, Ok let me give you the skinny on myself. Ive been playing acoustic guitars on and off since 1983 and finally wanted to take the leap into electrics.

I grew playing and enjoying the beatles, bob dylan, some metal, alot of alternative and mainstream rock. Lately ive been listening to alot of indie and blues and spent the past year researching which sort of guitar fits me and my playing style.

Since i don't listen nor play much metal i ruled out alot of the Gibsons and while they are fine instruments it just seems to me more people who play the sort of music and chords i like play Teles. So i decided to pickup a cheap 400 dollar mexican tele from a guitar store and it's artic white and very very nice!

What got me totally hooked on the telecaster was the fact i saw this blues player on television named Albert collins and he really intrigued me. I started looking up vidoes of him and others who played teles on youtube and found that this was the sound and type of guitar for me but i have 2 questions.

1. what sort of strings would you recommend for my standard tele?
2. alot of people put american pickups in their standard but does anyone keep the mexi's in just to have a different sound then their american teles?

Sorry for the long rant just introducing myself to the forums and appreciate any feedback. :D

1. I would go for either Ernie Ball stringsfor $5, or if you want something a little more high end DR makes these cool colored and coated strings for $10 they're pretty cool.

I have been using Fender Original Bullet 10's for the last month or so and like the sound/feel. As far as pickups, my Koa Tele came with Seymour Duncan® APTR-1, APTL-1, (Neck/Bridge) (AP=Alnico Pro) and they sound great!

first: nice colour
Use .009 strings. it gives you this thin and slightly annoying sound when you play on the clean channel  I love it 8)
as long as the sound is good you don't have to change your pickups
but if they sound like a car wreck I'd still keep 'em

sounds like an awesome tele ya got der.
I would suggest getting a better amp before you buy pickups, just a preferance, and you may never get around to stickin some new ones in and never care! For strings, get orignal 150 .009's. Pretty standard. These strings last a little while but I like them because they won't destroy your frets. Not that super 250's will any time soon, I just like getting original 150's.

Hi:

I have a 1994 MIM I bought new, the only thing I changed were the pickups and that was several years after I bought it, The lead pickup for me was to mid range in sound, and the bottom end wasn't there, I found it didn't have the metal or copper bottom plate on it so it changes the sound. I wanted the same sound as the old Ricky Nelson records, the factory pickups couldn't get that sound
