Hi guys,
So I'm probably going to put some of these pickups into my MIM standard tele.
I'm looking at a set on ebay, but the seller does not have the screws.
Does anyone know if the holes/screws on the stock p/ups are are the same size as those on the specials?
Also, is it worth putting in the 4-way selector? From what I've read it sounds quite good.
Is it a complicated mod to install it (I will be getting a luthier to do it but I'm trying to work out if is worth paying for his time for something I may not really use)?
I play mostly rock/alternative/metal-ish stuff (pearl jam, foo fighters, alice in chains etc through to metallica) at home and occasionally jamming with friends, I'm looking to do some home recording as well.
Is the 4th position that different/useful?
I like the sound of the stockp/ups but just want a brighter/fuller output-especially in the neck),
From the demos i've seen the specials are pretty hot and sound quite nice when overdriven.
I'd also like to know if the is any way to verify if these pickups are genuine? I dont think the seller is dodgy but he is selling them pretty cheap.
Im thinking i'm going to get a graphite nut put on to replace the stock plastic one...does this really improve the tone/tuning stability (the guitar currently has 10-46's and holds tune well-unless I get really bend-happy, im going to get it set up properly while it's in the shop anyway).
Any opinions are appreciated.

I have a clasic series 60s tele with the 4 way switch and it definitely adds another sound a fuller crunchier sound in the fourth position. I can't say about the other stuff.

I would definitely go with the four-way switch. I put one on my Tele and I wouldn't go back.

I have a friend who put a graphite nut on his G&L. It significantly changed the tone, and not for the better...but that is just my opinion and you might like it.

Texas Specials are great pickups, and I like them a lot...another angle you might look at is Pete Biltoft's pickups, I have a set of SP90s in my Strat and I love them...
