Hi there! I've got a problem with my squier telecaster. had to resolder everything. All wirings are 1:1 copies of the official squier schemata, all contacts and solderings are clear and neat, masses are connected alright, no humming at all. But: the signal coming from the neck PU is existing but close to zero, extremely weak... The one of the bridge PU is OK.
What could be the problem?

Need help quickly!
Thanx a lot!
Laurent

Sounds to me like a poor connection to one or more of the hot wires off the pickup. Also, a bad ground can cause a loss of reference voltage, (0 volts, ground) the things need to put out the full signal.

Were all the pups working before? If so, recheck the joints for cold solder and/or excess flux residue (I've been soldering for 34 yrs. and I STILL make a cold one every now and then!) Also make sure that the terminals are wired correctly and that there are there are no unintentional solder bridges to any terminal, especially a grounded terminal, 'cause that'll make them ultra quiet! Also make sure the shield wires are properly grounded. If you use a large iron (>30Watts) heat damage can occur to the components, too. Check to see if your pots and possibly the pickup might be wired in reverse as well. It's remotely possible that the pickup is out of phase with another, canceling out some of its output.

Hope this helps!

1. Cold Solder.
2. Bridging on the switch. I think the Squires are sealed, so that may be unlikely.
3. Bad Pup.
4. Switch wired incorrectly.

Good luck.

and making it cheap means that its garunteed to cause problems
theyre wrong

we cant all afford fender tele's!
i think its good that fender offer a cheaper option

It sounds like your pickup is getting ready to call it quits.

How does a pickup quit? These are just coils of wire wrapped around magnets. No moving parts, insulated wire, etc. I suppose corrosion or maybe vibration can damage them, but I have two electrics with SCs, buckers and an old Lawrence in-hole bucker for my acoustic that are 20+ yrs old, and so far they've shown no sign of failure. Anybody feel free to tell me how theirs quit, 'cause I'd like to know. Thanks!

I can not answer your question on the problem with your guitar, How ever
to the person who said that suiers are basicly junk - should rethink his opinion on them. I have a '52 butterscotch blonde Tele' that has been played by two very good players & both of them has said that the $169 that I payed for it - was a steal. Both of them also have said that it plays better than there strats, & one of my freinds is right now on the hunt for a Tele' as he said & I quote "I have got to have one these"

I also Have a Squier Hollow Body electric (Was my Late Fathers Guitar)
This is another Squier that has been played by two guitarist who do not mince words as they call junk - junk when they play it & Once again they are blown away by the quality..............

Like everything out there yoou may always run into a bad one every now & then but the good ones out way the bad ones

I had a similar sounding problem with my 72 thinline RI. the bridge pickup sound was almost no existant. If I cranked my amp, I could notice a subtle sound, but that was about it, which meant it had a connection, just a weak one.

I took it in to the shop and it was a problem with the pickup wiring, which he fixed for $40 bucks.
