I just bought a Mexi-TELE at Guitar Center yesterday. They are calling it a "Guitar Center Exclusive" and said that the body is made from ASH. SO, my question is that I REALLY want to know where Fender gets the ASH to make these? I really love and have a respect for wood and species and I had seen some Taylor guitars that were made out of Swamp Ash and was told that the Ash was from southern swamps, which was SO TOTALLY COOL. So, I'm trying to find the Mojo from where the Fender Ash is from.
My second question is that the Headstock indicates that this Tele is a 2008, yet I just got it brand new off the wall. The Guitar Center had gotten it only two months ago so I was wondering if it has sat in a warehouse for a while or maybe came from somewhere where they couldn't get it sold or ?
This is my first post of many to come. Thank you. :?

I don't know the story of your guitar specifically, but the Guitar Center near me had a bunch (like 10) brand new Michael Kelly guitars that were Guitar Center exclusives that got "lost in inventory" for 3 years, so they had to sell them as used. I imagine that your guitar could possibly have had something like that happen.

As I understand it, they're two different species of the ash tree (genus Fraxinus). Well not exactly, there are 43 species, so it's hard to really figure what's what.

Based on personal experience only, I built my first Tele with a "northern ash" body; it's the same stuff they make baseball bats from, very dense, heavy as a Les Paul, sustains for days.

The two that I built with "swamp ash" are quite a bit lighter and (to my ears) give a bit more tonal complexity, however, there are knowledgeable folks who say it doesn't make a dime's worth of difference in tone.

Fender makes FSR's for the bigger outlets like GC keep in mind that the corporate giant of GC includes Musician's Friend and Music123 so yes it probably sat in a warehouse somewhere for a while. I think they put them out for a while then pull them off to keep the demand up. As far as where the wood came from well north america is as close as you may track it to. Swamp Ash is southern USA, Lite Ash is usually found in asian Fender's
