Hi guys,

I have a 2010 Fender American Telecaster Deluxe and today, for some odd reason, I could hear a rattle coming from the top of the neck. I narrowed it down to a loose truss rod (the truss rod adjustment hole on this guitar is located at the nut). I tightened up the truss rod every so slightly until I could hear no more rattle and everything was great!

However, now my low E and A strings are buzzing and I have very little relief on the neck! I tried to add more relief by loosening the truss rod but, the rattle came back! When I say buzzing, I can't seem to detect it through the amp but there is a degree of acoustic buzz which I didn't quite notice before.

Any ideas of what I can do to remedy the problem? Can the truss rod be loosened so that it picks up tension?

I have my action set at how I like it so raising it is not an option for me.

Make sure you are turning the truss rod adjustment the correct way. Sounds like you loosened the nut first time around and may not have tightened it enough to eliminate the rattle and put the proper amount of relief in the neck.
