I have seen descriptions calling the Vintage Hot Rod '52 Tele® a MIA guitar but on the fender site it isn't catagorized in with the American listings but at the bottom. The price seems MIA but I would like to be sure...anyone know?

thanks,

thanks,

I was wondering how you like the guitar and specifically if you compared it to any fenders with a full HB in the neck position ie. a 72 thinline? I know sound is opinion but I would like to hear some opinions because my local shop doesn't have the hotrod but can get it.

I've played both, liked em both. If money wasn't an option I probably would have bought both. I liked how the 72 Thinline with its dual HBs drove an amp, but I liked the Hot Rod better because I like a traditional single coil pickup in the bridge and I just prefer mini-humbuckers because while they still drive an amp IMHO they clean up better (A little tamer I'd say than the full-sized HB, if that makes sense >_>). That and I preferred the neck on the Hot Rod, rolled fingerboard edges and whatnot plus you get the cool tweed case. For the record, I ordered my Hot Rod from the local shop without trying it firsthand, it was a ballsy move but luckily it paid off. Still want that 72 Thinline with the natural finish, that's a really nice-looking (and playing) guitar. I just wanted the black hot rod more because I felt it was a better compliment to the white strat :P

Capo - I think I have the identical twin to your black Hot Rod, and sister to your Strat :)

ast370 - The Hot Rod is top quality, top tone, top playability instrument.

It is very responsive to playing dynamic, plenty of twang on clean, and is also a rocker with OD. I can't get any bad sound of of it. The Tone control works extremelly well on both clean and OD. The mini-humbucker has a tone of its own, not really full humbucker and not really strat neck single coil - sort of a mix of both. Compared to regular humbucker, I'd say the mini-humbucker has a smoother attack with more sustain, more defined when you really crank up your amp. To put this in perspective for you, it's so easy just to stay on the neck mini-humbucker of the Hot Rod Tele for an entire song from end to end, including the solo part.

Good luck in your Tele quest !

The NAMM "Tele-bration" version uses a full-sized humbucker. It comes also with a fully intonatable compensated brass bar bridge.

This is a limited-edition version as only 500 pieces will be available till the end of 2011.

The 'used gear' section on the Guitar Center site has these for $999. They have a few. That's wayyy below CL and eBay. If you get it shipped to the store it's only $10 and you have 30 days to return. 8)

Hi all

Just got my 52 hot rod tele

The humbucker has a plastic covering over it. At first I thought it was just to protect it during shipping, but when I tried peeling it off, it didn't come off easily, almost like it extends beneath the pickguard. Instead of apply more force, I thought I'd come online and ask...

Did you guys remove this plastic covering?

Thanks

LB,

No worries - go ahead and peel off the plastic. It's just their for protection during shipping. Their may also be a clear plastic over the pickguard. Peel that off as well. You may want to slightly loosen the screws on the pickguard as you peel off the plastic. It makes for a cleaner job.

You have a Hot Rod '52 :D - I'm jealous - it's one of the few Telecasters I don't have!

Have fun with it!

Any further thoughts on this? I just got a Hot Rod '52 and the plastic on the humbucker is much tougher to remove than any other Fender I've owned. The plastic wraps around the sides of the pickup and under the pick guard. I made a mess of it trying to remove it - I'm left with shreds of plastic around the edges of the pickup. Short of removing the pickup I'm not sure how to get this stuff off.

My pick guard may also have plastic on it but I haven't been able to lift an edge on it yet.
