I prefer Texas specials.Try "Just Pickups" for best prices.I play a Tele. and have had them on for about a year and really like them. I play country, bluegrass, classic gospel and a few Rolling Stones songs.

Bardens are the classic snappy/twangy boutique Tele pickups. It's too bad he's out of
business now due to employee embezzlement, and the price of a used set on eBay is now about $350.

Seymour Duncan has a Broadcaster set, among other good options. Fender makes an Original Vintage set that's nice. Dimarzio's Twang King set recieves good reviews. Bill Lawrence winds a set called Keystones. All that I've listed so far would probably be under $150.00 for the set. Right now Musicians Friend is running a special on new sets of Bardens (Gatton and Modern sets) @ around $300.00 a set. If you want to get into boutique pickups try O.C. Duff or Don Mare, these two guys will wind anything you want. They both specialize in vintage sound. Do some research before you start throwing too much money into it. Right now I'm using a Seymour Duncan Jerry Donohue bridge and an O.C. Duff Bigboy neck and I'm pretty happy with that combination. Bear in mind that "twang" isn't always dependent on the pickups. The gear you use (amp, pedals, ect.) and how you approach the instrument has a lot to do with "twang". Good luck and have fun with it. Guess I should have asked what you have on your guitar currently, maybe you just need to adjust what you have?

I think any 'vintage-style' Tele pickup should do the trick. Texas Specials are a little higher output but not quite as bright.

I searched high and low, and found that the Fender AVRI '62 bridge pup is an excellent country twangin pup, not a high output pup,has a great mid range response, and is very "country", and good for soul/r and b stuff as well. It dun put the chicken in my pickin'.
I recommend getting the bridge plate loaded with the saddles and the pup, they are not very expensive either! I got mine for around $60 (bridge pup, bridge plate, steel threaded saddles all assembled. It is killer.

With my '04 MIM Tele I can get icepick trebles with just the stock pups and often have to back off the tone because it's too shrill.
