Please help! I bought a 72RI and still have the strings it came with on. at the 5-8th frets when i bend the string goes dead. would new strings fix this? or does the neck need to be adjusted? or something else? I am tech retarded, im just a player, haha. Thanks for your help.

If the strings sound fine in all other areas it's very unlikely that they're dead and your neck may need adjustment as it sounds like the strings are fretting out.If your guitar is still under warranty a truss rod adjustment may be covered ,if not it shouldn't cost much anyway. If you get a truss rod adjustment or even a whole set up you should definitely put on new strings. On the very slim chance that it may be your strings maybe you should change them anyway.

A string change will never hurt......and you should always set up a guitar with a fresh set. If you do not know what you are doing, take the guitar to a shop for a setup :) It will be well worth it. If you do your own setups, buy Dan Erlewine's book, and a set of feeler gauges, and make a radius gauge. :)

If the strings are dead, you need new strings.
If you need an adjustment or setup, you want to do it with new strings.

Change the strings, to see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't, take it in for a setup.

A full setup will fix it. Likely a saddle height adjustment is in order followed by potentially tweeking the truss rod.
