Hi everyone,
Great fourm you guys have got here...thought I would stop lurking and finally register.
I just wanted to ask about changing the string gauge on my '99 MIM standard Tele (see my avatar for pic).
I currently have it set-up for 10-46 but am considering going back down to 9-42.
As these are a lighter gauge strings will I need to adjust to truss rod?
Cheers guys :)

Maybe

(great answer, eh?) :)

It depends how much relief your neck has now and where your saddles are set. So maybe yes, or maybe no. (note....I've done this myself and sometimes I've had to and sometimes not).

Stepping up or down just one string gauge "usually" doesn't mean a truss rod adjustment but sometimes it does happen as different brands of the same gauges could have quite different string tensions.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I'm probably going to have some mods done on it soon (new pick ups, pickguard).
Will ask my guy what he thinks when it goes into the shop ;)

I remember going up a size, 9 to 10, and didn't have to adjust anything.
Humidity changes the neck a bit too so it might come into play. I notice now that the warmer weather has come back I'm tuning more often.

It's not that big a deal to check and adjust though.
