Hi All,

I'm new here, first post woohoo.

I just bought myself a 2006 52 RI tele and it has a strange brand on the body, I've not seen it on any other telecasters and I was wondering if anyone knows what it is and why it's there?
I like it cos it kinda adds character to the guitar, it also looks to be original and not something that was modded on afterwards as it's under the varnish. Any ideas?

Any help would be much appreciated as to the origins of this mark or its reason.

It's 08/09/06 according to Fender customer support, if that helps.

Cheers,

Eoin

Ok I spoke to Fender today, they reckon that it's not something the guitar had when it left them, said it's probably the result of a decal someone put on it, what threw me is that it is somewhat varnished over, it could be someone did it and sprayed over it.

I can live with it anyway, sound is a beauty is the main thing.

Sometimes pigments or chemicals from decals or other things stuck on guitars can actually work their way INTO the finish - take away the decal and oops, some of the pigment is now part of the finish. I have a Peavey Tele and it's got a red mark IN the finish from when the store selling it put a sticker tag on the guitar and it sat in the sun for a year or two. Smart. I got a pretty good discount on it.

That's actually what threw me, it's almost as if it's been heat branded like a steer. I'll live with it anyway, unless I ever come into money and feel like employing a luthier to take the finish down completely and build it up again, but not for now in any case.

Is this new or used? If it is used then the 1st owner must have been put a stricker or decal that stick well and before he sells it he took the sticker out and left a mark. Still nice guiter. :D

A repair attempt has been made on it already, there is definitely spray laquer over the damage.

It's used, was built in 2006, I struggle to understand how he could have done such damage with a sticker even in the space of 3 years, as my brother has had it for two years already at least.

It's certainly a nice guitar, I'm enjoying it immensely.

So you are trying to erase the damage or is it already repaired? If your trying to repair by your own I suggest to you that don't touch the damage because in my experience putting more chemicals can make the damage even worse. Unless you're good at repairing stuff. Maybe Fender can repair the damage. So the guitar was made last 2006 and still running good that guitar is quite sturdy. Goodluck friend happy playing :P :P

At first I was curious if it was something that was intended from the factory, now I know, I think I'll just leave it, people pay a lot to relic them, looks like this is on it's way a la natur :)
