Hi have just purchased american vintage 62 custom telecaster . Can any one tell me the advantages and disadvantages of changing pickup wiring from standard vintage to current. Also how difficult is this to do

Hi ian lummis,

Looks like it would be relatively easy to change the wiring configuration from one to the other, swap a few wires, change a cap value, eliminate one cap. Compare the two diagrams below. With the modern configuration, you will have the bridge/neck in the middle switch position 2, and neck in position 3, with tone control in all three positions. The vintage configuration will have the middle position 2 for neck pickup with tone control, and the position 3 is neck with no tone control. :)
