I have my sights on what is supposed to be a 2005 American Deluxe Telecaster for about $1,000.00. It supposedly has noiceless pickups, but no S-1 switch. The serial no. is DZ2180642.

Was this a 2002 model or 2005 model and was it a high end tele in 2005?
Also weren't all deluxe tele's supposed to have an S-1 switch in 2005.

Thanks

Assuming that the neck is original, the serial no. DZ2180642 indicates from "DZ2" that it is a 2002 American Deluxe, which I believe was before the S-1 switch.

Thank you for the info. The owner did say he was the second owner but he thought it was a 2005. I decided to buy it anyway because the price was right and at my early level of playing I doubt if I would take advantage of the S-1 switch. If I need one down the road I will upgrade.

That is great info. Thanks. Rob does your database tell you how many Candy Tangerine American deluxe Teles were made in 2002? I just bought one this weekend and the seller told me it is a rare color. Sales pitch or is it true? Thanks.

I hate to be a "bubble burster," but unless your guitar is a numbered CS guitar, in a lot of 50 or less, it is highly unlikely that any degree of "rarity" regarding color, will ever have any monetary meaning, unless you can figure out a way to live for 200 years. Other than that, "rarity" will likely be determined by the number of similar Teles you see out and about.

This is not meant to deter an answer from Rob, if he is actually able to answer your question with a real color count.
It is only meant to place your question in some degree of perspective..., and this is only from my perspective of course...

Now that's good customer service right there. This guy didn't even have to contact Fender; they came to him.

Hiya Kmrumedy,
Although I've never really gotten into the"eventual worth" end of things, I think I would agree with MickJagger. Also, yes it is pretty difficult to determine how many of a color were made in a particular year, and as the years go by and computer systems are changed etc, harder still.
TimDrakeMusic!! Thanks man! Nice of you to say.

all the best,
rob

Thanks guys. Should have stated my question wasn't about future monetary value but more of the accuracy of the statement by the seller. "Rare" "Collector" etc. seems to be like white noise these days. Every guitar you see on the boards for sale these days seems to be "special". I just want to play them.

With regards to perspective....not sure about waiting 200 years. My 1960's stock Fenders seem to be doing quite well thank you very much.

Thanks guys and awesome customer service Rob!!!

Buddy, back in 2005 I wanted to finally buy a nice Telecaster. I went to the only retail musical instrument in my one horse town here and tried several Fender MIM Teles, and a few Korean Teles and thought WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL? I actually thought that I'd be better off financially buying the best guitar at a pawn shop. They had one Fender American Deluxe Telecaster behind the counter in a glass show case. I asked what the deal was on that Tele. Guy said "About $1500." Why is it over twice the price I thought UNTIL I tried it out. I still own that guitar to this day. If you want to purchase a Fender Tele OR Strat, don't hesitate buying the American Deluxe models of each. I liked that Tele so much I went and bought a 2012 Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster HSS. BUY IT.
