Start with the simplest, easiest things first. Replace the output jack.

I've had plenty of experience copper tape shielding, twisting wires to minimise loop area etc. If the cord does not get a good solid ground connection, all your work is wasted.

been there, done that.

I put SCN Pickups in an '83 Telecaster and had the exact same hum problem as he describes when I tool my fingers off of the strings, the bridge, or didn't touch the input jack housing. Copper shielding and "star grounding" will eliminate his hum with humbucklers. It is very doubtful that he has an output jack grounding problem. His hum problem is electrical interference.

Been there, done that.

You very well may be right....I'm not arguing that. I design and troubleshoot electronics for a living and always make simple changes first. As I mentioned, I've done the proper single-point-ground system and shielding, including twisting any wire pairs.....only to find that the output jack was the problem. I only want to point out an easy, cheap thing to try before spending a lot of time on more complex problems.

:)

I've a slightly different hum problem with my Tele. Ever since I replaced the pickups, I get a hum when I touch the neck PU (when it's selected). The wiring is the same as before. Any thoughts on what could cause that would be much appreciated.
