Hey guys.

For the past year I've been searching for a new guitar that sounds just like I want it to.
Currently I play a Telecaster Deluxe black dove. I'm a rhythm guitar player in a band.
I think the Telecaster black dove sounds a little to sharp, but when i turn my bridge pickup down, I lose all of my bright tone.
I would like to buy a new guitar that doesn't sound thin but sounds warm and bright.
Do you think a normal tele with the single coils will sound like this?
Or do you know a guitar for me that will sound warm and bright? (Mustang, Jaguar?)

Thanks for your help!

I'm from Belgium so excuse me if my english is totally wrong =)

check out what kind of tone pot your tele is equipped with, you should be able to achieve the sound you want with that guitar. maybe look into a "grease bucket" tone pot, roll off the highs without gaining huge bass. but a new guitar is always nice too, lol

I like how my telecaster deluxe sounds but I just want to know what guitar type would be better for a warm and bright sound.
Cause I'm gonna buy a new guitar but I don't know which one :D

And yes I have tried a stra,t but that's not what I am looking for.

Switch to the neck pickup and adjust the tone as needed.

Not with the right pickups, Ozrv.
With the right pickups, a Tele will have more bite than an equally equipped Strat.
Get a set of the discontinued Fender SCN noiseless Tele pickups if you can find them.

For the loss of highs rolling off the volume, try the Ted Greene 50's Mod. Move the wires from the tone pots to the middle lugs (output lug) of the volume pots. It can be done to Les Paul style or Tele style controls. Don't ask me the technical aspects of how it works, but it changes how the controls and the pickups interact. The caps will remain the same, don't change how they're wired. Are the vol/tone pots quality, are they 250k or 500k, that will make a difference. If I'm correct you have P90 style of pickups, going to a standard Tele w/single coils probably won't be a big change. Seymour Duncan makes a P90 stack which might not be brighter but warmer than what you have currently. If your happy with the feel of the guitar you have now, try some inexpensive mods first. The 50's Mod costs nothing, pots and pickups are somewhat cheap. Good luck! :)

Here is a diagram of the "Ted Greene 50's Mod," otherwise known as the "Fezz Parka Mod."
There are many discussions of this Mod online.

Move the red wire lead from the outside terminal of the Volume pot to the middle terminal of the volume pot.
I have not done the mod, but many swear by it.
It is designed to preserve your higher frequencies when you roll back the volume.
This mod supposedly does this better than a "volume kit" wired in parallel across the same two volume pot terminals.
Also, make sure that your capacitor does not have a higher value than 022µF.

Here are volume kits for both single coil and humbucklers, which are an alternative to this mod:

Thanks Mick for the diagram. The mod works for me and I won't go back to the treble bleed configuration. I think it works best with tube amps, but I've had good results with my SS amps also. The OP didn't give us any idea of what type of gear he's using other than his guitar. Alot of things factor in to your tone besides just the guitar. Good luck to him and he will probably never end his search for the perfect tone, but that's part of the fun.

Thanks for the advise you guys!
I tried a few telecasters with the standard single coils and I was blown away by how they sounded. I really liked the sound.
So I think I'm just gonna buy a new telecaster :)

If your going to go to a standard Tele, do the 50's Mod and try a 4 way switch. The 4way will give you sort of a humbucker tone as well as the standard 3 position tones.
