I'm considering a Vox amp and was wondering if anyone here plays their Tele through a Vox AC15C1. If so, could you give me a brief review of the amp? Things I like to know are:
- Quality of construction
- Quality of sound
- Overall reliability
- How is the overdrive?
- Is it "pedal friendly"?
- How is the reverb & tremolo?
- Does it help or hurt the Tele twang we all love?

I tried one out in the store several months ago and really liked it. It would be interesting for me to hear how the Telecaster community feels about playing their Teles through the AC15C1. I only played a poorly set-up Tele through it in the store...while the kiddies were shredding their faces off next to me so I didn't get the full Vox experience.

Thanks in advance! If I buy one, I'll be sure to post some pictures for anyone who cares to see them.

Although I don't own a Vox AC15 I have played through them and they are great amps in every way.Plus they're as solid and as heavy as a Sherman tank. The reverb and tremolo of the AC 15s and 30s are among the best I've tried and they are very compatible to using effects with.I suggest that if you do buy one that you don't use the effects loop but go direct into the instrument input because even the Vox effects loops rob some of the presence of your signal.
I have a Vox AD120VTH that has very realistic AC 15 models on it and I swear by it as well as a Pathfinder 15R .Vox amps are really well made and extremely sturdy and reliable.

Thanks Guitslinger for the comprehensive review. I appreciate it. I have a AD50VT and I love the 15 setting on it also. That is actually what originally made me want one.

The Telecaster + Vox is a killer combo! I have a '64 Super Reverb that is my main gigging amp but it's going to be in the shop for a little while so I've been using my AC30. My CS '52 Telecaster always sounds great through my Super Reverb but when I'm cranking on that Hot Broadcaster bridge pickup the piercing high end can almost take your head off! With the AC30 there is still plenty of biting treble but the sound is smoother, mellower and more full-bodied.

Go the Pro Guitar Shop website for a good video review. The AC15C1 will sound great with a Tele. You will need a A/B or A/B/Y box as the channels are not switchable. I also believe that it doesn't have an effects loop either.

One of the best guitar/amp combos imho. The tele twang is more a growl then snap (of a blackface). It's the basis of a great deal of the country tones of the past decade. Brad Paisley did his first album with an AC30 and his Dr Z amps are very Vox AC inspired. I had one of the Korg made AC15 TBX models (w/ alnico blue speaker) 10 years ago, as I chased that Paisley Twang - it greats you there. Cleans are 3 dimensional with these amps and you get amazing dynamics. If you play the bridge pup alot, a Vox will telegraph all your skills (or lack thereof). I thought the tremolo sounded great, very deep and easy to tailor to your needs.

Pedals - hmmm, I always had a problem finding a good overdrive to work with the AC15. Something with less mids would work well (I tried the whole world of TS9/808s and their clones). Funny, it sounded like poo for me, but back to Brad Paisley, he used Keeley mod'd TS9s for some great tones.

I have several Vox amps, Pathfinder 15r, Cambridge 15, DA5, Escort, Super twin and an AC15C1. As i come form the home of the fab four I like a clean sound and I find the Vox Amps coupled with my various Tele's give me what I need. I don't use any pedals so can't comment on that question. the Top Boost channel on the AC15C1 certaintly gives the tele Twang we love. These Amps are heavy!!! and solidly built. Reverb and tremelo are very good.

If you decide to go for one you won't be disapopointed.

Thank you for all the feedback everyone. I really appreciate it. I've decided that I'm going to pick-up the AC15. I've played one on a couple different occasions and really liked the sound and features.
Thanks again!

For those who know the story, Eric Clapton played his Dakota Red Telecaster through a Vox AC30.

I have an AC15H1TV and an American Deluxe Tele - it's a great combo. the overdrive is interesting. On mine Vox has two inputs a "standard" and a high gain that boost the input by about 6dB. Lots of opportunity for cleans and overdrive. Construction is very good - no problems with mine, but be aware the Heritage series amps use older circuitry and are prone to hum if your system isn't grounded properly - I don't know if the the regular AC15C1 has the same problem.
