Can anyone direct me to a resource that shows what kind of wood the body of the 1996 USA anniversary model is made of? I'm not talking about the collector kind with the gold plated parts. I'm referring to the regular '96 model with the medallion on the back of the headstock. Is there a link or pdf that I can look at to find out what the body is made of? Thanks.

As you say that is just a regular 1996 American Standard Tele with that Anniversary medallion on the headstock. The body would most likely be alder on most colors and ash on either natural or 2-color sunburst. Not sure if they had any other colors in 1996 that used the ash body - it would be something like a blonde finish, a sienna sunburst or a trans orange if they did.

It is black. Does that make a difference? It doesn't feel heavy enough to be ash. Those things weigh a ton.

I'm 99.5% sure that a black 1996 Tele would have an alder body.

Thanks for the help. I know my 83 was alder and it had a nice sunburst finish. The grain was too pristine to be ash and it was super light compared to the older Tele's.
