So my local guitar shop is selling a highway one tele (maple fretboard, sunburst body). I have heard some good things about these guitars but i one big complaint seems to be the greasebucket tone circuit.

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons to this and what exactly does it do?

and will i be able to replace with a different tone control? and how much would this cost?

To me theres nothing at all wrong with the greasebucket. Some Custom Shop Teles ( La Cabronita Especial) have it.I t does what it says it does, rolls off the highs without adding bass. I think it gives you more options in setting tone. What did you think? Didn't you try it or are you worried what others might think. Below is some reviews from GC. I love my HWY 1! If you don't like it just get the standard Tele but to me the HWY 1 is better.

I have a HWY 1 Tele and that guitar will NEVER be altered or sold. It is perfect and the Grease bucket is wonderful! You need to sit down and really play it. I don't mean one or two songs, I mean sit down with it for at least an hour and get to see what you are able to do with her. I promise you, it will be worth it and you will not regret the time or the purchase!

I had one in the same color and maple fret board as the one you looked at. Its a good guitar and like mentioned above you need to play it. I saw nothing wrong with the grease bucket so don`t go by some of the negative rerviews. If you like it as much as I liked mine, it`ll be your main guitar.
