Can anyone out there tell me if it's easy to remove the greasebucket circuit from the tone control of a telecaster? I'm thinking of buying an American Special, but I want to be able to use the tone control for swells like Roy Buchanan or Jim Campilongo. Is it an easy thing to alter on the guitar?

Thanks,
SD

The March issue of Premier Guitar (great mag and you may find it on line) has an article on pg.52 Called The Fender Greasebucket Tone Circuit. Check it out. It discusses circuit with drawing and I'll bet you will find the answer there.

Good hunting!

Straight foward to replace it with a "normal" tone control if you're handy with a soldering iron.

The Greasebucket is primarily intended to enhance the high frequencies without adding bass. It eliminates the "muffling" associated with a traditional tone control.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I'm now confident that I can handle the problem of the Greasebucket.
