Hi I have just bought a telecaster deluxe with n3 pickups but i find the pickups harsh and lacking character especially clean, i've tried moving the pickups and different strings. I also have a standard mexican telecster 2009 with the upgraded pickups and i love the sound of this. can you suggest American pickups for the deluxe that will sound more like the pickups on the standard mexican. Previously i have had strats and still own a 50th aniversary American strat, but when i tried the mexican tele i loved it and ordered the american deluxe thinking this could only be much better. The playability and the cut away etc are fantastic on the deluxe but the pickups are not to my taste. I'm deciding whether to sell the tele and buy an American standard or change the pickups. thanks

Welcome to the forum...I have an `07 Am Deluxe Tele and love it. I don`t know why they changed the pups on this newer model but the samarium colbalts that came in mine are just what I was looking for. You might want to check them out.

thitchings,

You may want to check out Jason Lollar's pickups. I have had nothing but a great experience working with his pickups. I have them in three of my current tele's and are set to be installed in two more builds. He has several models and a nice feature is that they are fairly noiseless.

I agree JPD that the Fender Samarium Colbalt Noiseless pickups are great Telecaster pickups, particularly if you play blues or rock as they are relatively hot pickups with great harmonics. The SCN Tele pickups may not be the best if you are looking for a "Bakersfield" sound.

The Tele SCN pickups are getting hard to find as they are discontinued. I just bought a pair that showed up on line as a clearance item in the Syracuse GC for $85!! Buy them if you find them, if you are looking for great noiseless Tele pickups.
