A good case can be made for either... you will have to test drive them both and make up your own mind. Good Luck with the hunt.

I've got both and they definitely don't sound anything alike, so like Bill said, head to GC and try them out side by side, then check the price and buy one.

A consideration is weight. I have a Baja Tele made of ash and it is surprisingly heavy. That may be an issue depending on what you plan to do. In many cases mass (weight) effects tone so it is a tradeoff.
Go play some! One of the great pleasures of life is checking out guitars with the intent to buy. But - take your time and be patient. You never know if your "dream guitar" is on the next rack.

I can't tell you what guitar is right for you, I can say which I would like, BUT that is me and you are not me.

A guitar is a personal choice, it has to feel right in your hands, not mine.

I suggest going down to the guitar store and play as many as you can find, you will find one that feels and plays better then the rest, and that one is the right one for you.

I personoly never liked thin line, the clasic twangy tele tone it what i like about the original, but play them and see how you like them, thats just my opinion.

Welcome to the friendly and family oriented Fender forum. :D

Man, that's a real question isn't it. :? Hmm...what amp will you be playing through?

I know - - not good to answer a question with another question, but your question needs to be more specific...oh dang...just go with the regular. :!:

Now we need to define 'regular' - basic Fender Standard Telecaster ?

Can you see where this is going...

hey T2stratman: what does the switch on an esquire do if it only has one pickup?

I love the guitar and silverface btw. 8)

The first setting, closest to the neck is a deep bassy sound, the middle position is with the tone control useable, the lead position is without any tone control, straight out to the amp...and it sure screams in the lead position...You don't see many of these but I just love cranking it through the Super Reverb.

Yeah I got the Super Reverb for a 85 Japanese '62 Tele Custom Reissue and I love it...the reverb on this one is just drippy and wet

If you like the traditional twang, then go with the standard.
